Wonder how much he's gonna get? He looked bad last year for the Raiders.

These two posts literally one after the other ... LOL

They may both be right to a point, one thing though, he comes up with the big play.

We need multiple additions at LB and DT in order to address the soft chewy center of the defense. I like Smith as part of the mix but would expect the team to remain active in the LB market. I still like Zach Brown.

same here, Zach Brown is still on my wish list

Brown is gonna cost some money, I much rather use the cap space to try and sign Terrelle Pryor .

We still have $96M less Malcolm Smith's deal which I'm projecting to be around $4M anyhow. We good!

Wait, after hitting up 5 free agent they still have $96 million?

lol yeah- after all those cuts, they got up to ~120 in cap space

Yup...with two potential cuts (if needed)

Potential cap space:
$100,429,224 (includes Kaepernick and Earl Mitchell's deals) + T.Smith's ($4.675M) & Bethea's ($5.75M) + M.Martin ($1.797M) + potential cuts in Brooks ($5.3M) & Brock ($3.55M) = $121.5M

Less:
YWR Jeremy Kerley - 3 years, $10.5M ($3.5M)
XWR Pierre Garcon - $16M (first year only) ($7M?)
QB Brian Hoyer - 2 years, $12M ($6M)
XWR Marquise Goodwin - 2 years, $8M ($4M)
FB Kyle Juszczyk - 4 years, 21.5M ($5.25M)
SAM/WILL Malcolm Smith - ??

= $25.75M = $96M (before Malcolm Smith; expected $4M)

Malcolm Smith seems like he would suck for the whole game but will come up with the big play come crunch time.

This was the f**ker that intercepted Kap not sure if i want him anymore.

well, we'll see if he's a system LB that will re-flourish in Saleh's D schemes

Good call Bill!

Nope. Bow is the Mike. Brooks is SAM. (Unless Malcom gets pushed over there).

according to who? He played outside in college, and Brooks sucked in a 4-3 with Cincy.

In this D (it's a little different than the standard 4-3), the SAM is more like a 3-4 OLB, who sets the edge, covers a little, and rushes a little. The Mike is the best and smartest LB on the team, and the Will is relied on to cover and fly to the ball.

well we will have to wait and see. No way Brooks is on the roster come week 1

Oh, how sweet it is!

And all of these are front loaded contacts. For instance, Kyle Juszczyk, has $7.5 paid up front so from years 2-4, it's only a $4.5M hit. Garcon, same concept. In fact, all of these contracts will be structured in a similar manner. A potential, $121.5M is an insane amount of cap space and can be stretched out sooooo many ways.

We haven't made a dent so far!
