Yah Brooks shouldn't be cut IMO but wouldn't care if he goes. I think we'll release if we get Perry/Alexander/Sheard. Agree on Brock even if not Bouye.

you guys might not remember, the whole reason we got Brooks in the first place years ago was b/c he didn't fit in Cincy's 43 Defense.

We're not running Cincy's 4-3 defense.

This

Brooks is way bigger now, he could actually play DE in the 4-3 instead of OLB.

Cincy tried to have him play OLB.

2017 base of $1.65M is fully guaranteed at signing
2018 base is guaranteed for $1.85M now for injury, and for that amount fully on April 1, 2018
2019 and 2020 base salaries of $2.85M are non-guaranteed(Only become guaranteed if on Week 1 53 Man Roster)

Cap Numbers:

2017- $2,921,875
2018- $3,850,000
2019- $4,450,000
2020- $4,450,000

I have us at $100,429,224 under right now after Mitchell, Bethea release, Smith release, but before Kerley's terms.

Any clarity on the revised amount after the flurry of signings?

This is what I have for now:

Potential cap space:
$100,429,224 (includes Kaepernick and Earl Mitchell's deals) + T.Smith's ($4.675M) & Bethea's ($5.75M) + M.Martin ($1.797M) + potential cuts in Brooks ($5.3M) & Brock ($3.55M) = $121.5M

Less:
YWR Jeremy Kerley - 3 years, $10.5M ($3.5M)
XWR Pierre Garcon - 3 years, $XM ($16M first year; $23M over first 2 years; $? 3rd year) ($9M?)
QB Brian Hoyer - 2 years, $12M ($6M)
XWR Marquise Goodwin - 2 years, $8M ($4M)
FB Kyle Juszczyk - 4 years, 21M ($5.25M)
SAM/WILL Malcolm Smith - ??
TE Logan Paulsen - ??

= $28.75M = $93M (before Malcolm Smith; expected $4M & Logan Paulsen; expected $3M)

Sooo about 86 mill give or take?... Minus 10 for draft class. 76 mill. I think we should spend another 26-36 mill and still have 40-50 mill to carry over? If it was up to me... WR,OL,DL. Thomas and TJ Watt in the draft,CB in third then BPA.

Grand salame.
According to Ian Rapopport of NFL Network, Garcon's deal is $9.5M a year. Supposedly he is getting a $12M signing bonus.

Also Niners up next on NFL Network.

Nice. So 3-years, $28.5M, $12M guaranteed? Good deal.

PrObably 19 guaranteed... two years worth of salary. Which would mean if we cut him after next year we can do so if we want?

Once the dust settles, I think we'll find that we front loaded a lot of these contracts to provide cap flex in the future and to immediately utilize the roll over cap that we have allocated (~$40 million). That roll over is on a use it or lose it basis. So the ability to front load contracts today will save for tomorrow's cap, and allow teams to roll over another amount to the next football calendar year.

The only watch out if there's a motivational decline when players aren't making the same amount of salary after years 1-2.
