Lots of good arguments for who the 3tech and who the strongside DE should be between DeFo and AA. All of it makes sense. Very anxious to see how this plays out.

Jonathan Allen will be the 3tech. Armstead will be on the trade block when all is said and done.

This is a long read but a good one for anyone trying to understand the 4-3 under better and how some of our players can slide into those positions

I think Ronald Blair is going to destroy as our 3 tech. Armstead is the odd man out.. which is kind of upsetting. We need to trade him while we can.

Nice...and here are a couple more:

I've been thinking the same about Blair too. If nothing else, another interior pass rusher on pass rush downs in rotation which would end up being close to 60% of the time.

Agreed. Blair has a chance to play his best football in this scheme.

I am curious to see how our current group comes up in this new scheme. To see if they were misused and/or handled. I would hate to give up on some of these guys only to see them go elsewhere and become dynamite. Especially the seahawks.

AA mostly played on that left side so I could see them wanting to keep him there...same with Chris Jones.

Maybe, maybe not
I'd like to see AA shifted to 3 tech and Blair at RDE in base if season started right now. On pass downs is where things can get even trickier. That's why I'm so antsy to start hearing about some noise on where guys are lining up.

Why? Would be nice to actually have some depth for a change. AA and Defo swapping snaps is scary... imagine blocking Buckner for an entire drive and thinking you had a chance to catch your breath as he walks off the field only to see Armstead replace him. Would really ruin your day.

exactly , and I'm hoping Dial can wear down some Offensive lineman , and allow our faster lineman to go at em full steam when we have them in a 3rd and long situations, this is where Solomon Thomas makes sense, an elite athlete for their offensive line to deal with , Buckner and Armstead will also be tough , throw in Blair and Lynch, and hopefully another edge rusher before the 5th , and we"re talking potentially having a fierce front 4 on the field at all times

Agree! A very good article that makes it clear that there are many variations not only to the general scheme but with each position and what players are used. For instance, many have been saying that an UnderTackle has to be smaller and quicker but this article makes it clear that is not uniform across all UnderTackle defenses. This is something I was hoping to read as I would like them to use our best players and develop/morph the scheme to the personnel's strengths.
