Rathman did some great things for the Niners and I'll always appreciate it. Good luck Woody!

"Tom Rathman is everything a football player should be."
Still putting the team first.

He was wanted here as a "assistant something something something"
Nice that he had the backbone to say no and move on
He said he just wants to coach running backs cause that's what he likes to do.

Tom Rathman was a great football player and has always been a class act, unlike some of the trolls on here.

Singletary was the Bears middle LB and came blitzing and had a head of steam but Rathman stepped in front of Montana and stop Singletary cold.......it was beautiful and that was the first touchdown of the game and I think they went on to win 23-0. I will miss him also.
I just watched that game last week- Rathman was AMAZING. Laying dudes out as a lead blocker for Craig, trucking legends like Mike Singletary, to running patterns and catching passes. Incredible player. I thought he was a good coach and brought good energy to the team.
Wish him the best!

Wish he could've been hired as an Assistant RB Coach or OC in title only, pay raise while learning how to call plays from HC... Sounds like KS and JL tried their best to keep him on board. Sad to see him go, but wish the best when he gets another opportunity to coach. Class act, hope he returns to SF when there's an opening.

Who said he could coach the RBs?
He moved on and did so with grace, no need to trash him.

How much can he really give or teach a young RB to become great??? RBs, (IMO), it's either you're great or you're a backup...
this post is silly.
There are position coaches who stay position coaches for 30 years cause that's what they like to do.
So a guys an idiot for not doing what someone else wants him to do?
lol
Well then we signed an idiot to replace him...

The team hired a RB coach to replace him, they told him he could not be the RB coach and that's OK. The team handled it with class just like Rathman.
I consider this to be a dig at Rathman and it was the comment I was referring to:
or stubborn enough and not notice that it could mean a future promotion in the NFL
