This is the most excited I've seen this fanbase since the middle of the 2014 season. Even the Week 1 blowout wins over the Vikings and Rams didn't generate this much optimism.
Do you think the optimism is warranted, or is most of the fanbase in for some massive disappointment?

Given what we had to endure the last 3 years, I am optimistic.

Next season is going to be a tough year.
Sit back and enjoy the rebuild. When its finished you will appreciate it much more.
I think we are on the right course.

This - I don't think we'll win more than 5 or 6 games in 2017, but I like the Shanahan hire a lot.
Fans are always too optimistic about our team's chances. Those of us who predicted 6 wins or less in 2016 got ripped on last offseason. Everyone always expects 8+ wins so that's nothing new.

I want to at least win more than two games next season lol. Last season was so awful I forgot what winning felt like during that franchise record losing streak, and the one time we DID win it was bittersweet because #1 overall in the draft is better than #2. At least in 2015 we managed to pull out a miraculous W every calendar month so I wasn't starved to death .

I predicted 6 wins last season and that was about average... we haven't gone through the draft or FA yet but right now I'm thinking 6 wins in 2017.

I think the level headed fans understand the rebuilding process will take the bulk of the six years these guys have. If the FQB can be identified early that will reduce the rebuilding time immensely. But that remains to be seen. Short of acquiring that guy early, we need to build the team around that guy, whenever he comes. I am not "too optimistic", but I am optimistic that given enough time these guys (our new GM and HC) can get the job done.

I just had that thought cause I'm more excited then when we hired harbaugh.
I am not expecting playoffs till year three possibly two so I don't think that's asking too much.
Our fanbase is mostly negative (with good reason as of late) but these are exciting times.

This fan base deserves to be somewhat optimistic. But I'm pretty sure everyone is realistic with expectations. None of us expect playoffs for sure next year. Some may think we have a shot in 2 seasons depending on how everything goes.

Good coaching staff should get this team to 8-8 in year one. It maybe 3 years before this team makes the playoffs.

No, the optimism level is about right and justified...
For the first time in the last three years, I am feeling the optimism as well.

This. Start fresh with a clean slate. Very, optimistic about the regime and where the team is heading.

It's an order of magnitude in the more hopeful department.
Why wouldn't it be?
It's hope.
That's what fans do.
