This is definitely going to be an interesting ride. I for 1 am all for the complete shakeup of things with a polarizing new GM & a great offensive mind coming to town! Go 49ers!

Fail and John Lynch don't associate with one another. I think this will be a great hire.

How is he an idiot? I give him credit for going out and doing something different.

At the very least, Lynch has always been around and knows what is to win in the NFL. Hopefully that give him some sort of experience to know what to look for when rebuilding this pathetic, once great Empire.
I had the same thought regarding Steve Young. Steve is very intelligent, loves the game and was tough as hell. Most importantly he loves the 49ers and respects the tradition. Shame he didn't get a shot.

Obviously, everyone hopes it'll be a John Elway type of situation. But, like so many of Jed's hires, this one is based entirely on hope, fantasy, and wishful thinking. This is the choice of an immature, entitled, and impatient man who fancies himself a Silicon Valley style outside the box thinker. What he's done here is to commit millions of dollars and the fate of this franchise (for 6 years!), to a man who has no experience and no actual qualifications for the job. If John Lynch succeeds, it'll be like hitting a half-court shot. Absolutely spectacular, but the odds are overwhelmingly against it.
+1
So many people giving Jed and this move the benefit of the doubt without recognizing the last 3 years of inept failure by our ownership. Any questionable move they make needs to be second guessed because they clearly don't know what they are doing.

The string of inexperienced "leadership" hires is my main concern about Lynch. Looking back, I had the same uneasy feeling when Sing was hired. Loved the guy, but hoped he got briliant help in his Coordinators and position coaches. Lol noone ever called him brilliant tho. Hated Tomsula on the other hand. This s**t better work out, it doesnt look good to me honestly. Jed has to always be Mr Different

didnt mike holmgren coach highschool football when walsh gave him a job in the nfl? a couple superbowls later hes a legend. give lynch a chance, hes already bringing in qualified people to help him. understanding your shortcomings and being prepared is very important and hes doing that already.

You've got an offensive minded guy and a defensive minded guy working together to accomplish a singular vision. It appears they both get along well, and Lynch is anything but power crazy. I think it's a nice match. These guys are young. Lynch remembers what it was like to be a player and clearly remembers the Bill Walsh culture.
How can you not like this hire? How can you possibly reserve judgement?

Just because Lynch played on defense doesn't really mean he knows how to scout defensive players. We'll see.
Even Singletary didn't want to draft Patrick Willis, even though he was a Hall of Fame LB. McCloughan had to persuade him to get on board.
Again, I'm not really worried about drafting offense, because I think Kyle would know what kind of players fit his scheme. The defense on the other hand, I don't really know. We might need to lean heavily on Adam Peters.

I like the pick... and I believe that he'll be better than both Millen and Elway..
don't forget that Peyton got Elway a ring... had not been for Peyton, Denver would have been only as good as they were this 2016 season.

Easy, the biggest reason being his inexperience. Never having had ANY position outside of the booth.

At first I was shocked, then I said I'd give it a chance, but I'm excited, and I have good feelings about Lynch as GM, and bringing in Peters to run the Scouting department is awesome. I think this offseason we'll hear less about Jed, Marathe, or any leaks. I also think Lynch will be willing to spend in free agency, which Baalke refused too.

Adding Peters straight away is a very interesting development. It really looks to me as though we are now moving in the right direction. Interesting times

Considering the numerous leaks over the year, the fact that Lynch's candidacy was never leaked is an accomplishment.
I also agree we'll have more success in FA. From 2011-2013 Baalke made good use of FA, likely due to the good vibes from Harbaugh's success. But as things became more dysfunctional and Baalke started to become more of the face of the franchise, it became a tough sell for potential FAs. We end up paying $8 mil a year for a one trick pony WR, when we used to get quality players for great value.
