Who would Kyle Shanahan's DC be?

I wonder if Kyle S. Would consider Brent Venebles from Clemson for DC, the dudes posted top 10 defenses in the NCAA for the last 12 years with two different teams. He did it last year after 7 starters left for the NFL. I think he has the chops

Who knows. I like that you're looking outside the NFL ranks though. Some good defensive minds in the college ranks.

Not that I've read about but who knows with these things. You know he is going to have his own guys running the offense if he doesn't call it himself but D is a mystery to what he would do. I don't see Rex Ryan or an old school type coming if he is in control, he has been dealing with that forever. You would think he would want a younger type that is inovative and used to developing talent quickly, that's a successful college coach, thats Venebles

Some people he's been on staff with:
Jim Haslett - WAS
Mike Smith - ATL, HOU
Ray Rhodes - HOU
Lou Spanos - WAS
Raheem Morris - ATL, WAS
Jim O'Neil - CLE
ATL also has Bryan Cox, Jeff Ulbrich, and Lance Schulters as assistants, though I doubt any are ready for DC.
If he runs a 3-4, maybe Spanos is an option. He spent a lot of time with the Steelers. He was DC at UCLA for two seasons.
By the way, should this be in the NT or NFL forum?

If Kyle Shannahan becomes our HC,which I hope he does, Mike Pettine will not be our DC. Pettine was a total asshat to Kyle back in Cleveland in 2014 when Kyle was his OC. I doubt Shanny wants him anywhere near him and doubt Pettine would work here with Kyle as his boss.
Pettine was a puppet in CLE and Kyle wasn't going to be one. Between that and how he was treated by Pettine Kyle wanted out of that Dumpster Fire.

Good list. I think he definitely goes with an experienced guy (former HC) so that he can focus on the offense. I'd add Gus Bradley to that list and remove O'Neil.

Is there a chance that he looks or has already looked to the college ranks?

Maybe we can get Rex Ryan with the stipulation that Rob Ryan stays out of California.
