I listened to the game yesterday, and by Tim Ryan's description every pass by Gabbert was a bad pass lol. Sounds terrible all game. That's not how it was watching the game.
Seattle with their physical DBs exposed what we all thought this offensive personel needed going into this season, a physical receiver, when we lost Boldin.
We have Kerley, Patton, and Smith trying to bang around the short and medium part of the field. None of them are adequate. You have Kerley getting between the zones but he's not going to body position or shield to catch a pass on anyone at 5'9. Patton couldn't get out of a jam between the sideline and the DB 15 yds downfield to get to the ball thrown to him.
Maybe with Smith and McD we could have a nice combo of speed and size/speed with both guys to attack the medium and deep. But McD wasn't available. Celek has size but not the speed.
So you have guys that couldnt make a play to get 4 yards on 3rd&4 because they can't fight to get open or the catch.
Maybe Gabbert should force something deep like it's a punt. Frustrating game. Like the Browns game of last year.
Do we need to talk about the defense
this offseason we really need to go out and get a big stud WR like Jeffrey. No buts, just go out and get him.

I dunno...
He did the flex thing but it was kinda half hearted. Almost seemed to me it was more out of frustration than anything else.
I do understand why people would be annoyed by it though.
Im old school I dont like people celebrating TDs when they are down 30 in the 4th, it makes them look foolish. But thats the least of our problems
I think most TD celebrations are taunting. And just flat ridiculous when you are getting your butt handed to you. The whole scripted dance and celebration thing is out of control. They are basically showing off for showing up and doing their job properly. I can see spontaneous joy after doing something, but if it is the same patented dance or act, that is pre-planned and should be banned, and not just TDs. A corner back or LB celebrating for making a decent stop? SMFH.

Short term, there is going to be some ugly losses.
Strap up because this may not be the last ugly loss on the schedule...but I'll bet there are going to be some surprises this year and at the end we are all going to have a much better picture of what they have and what they still need.
Exactly. As s****y as this rebuilding process is, the only way to get through it (beyond your substance of choice) is to have patience. It goes without saying the roster is incomplete and devoid of NFL talent in some of the most critical positions. So it's difficult for me to tell if the scheme is garbage or if we just don't have the players to run it well. Probably a little of both, but I'm hoping for the latter. Assuming this season goes really bad, at least we'll have a prime draft slot to help begin to fix the talent issue on our roster.

id never wish a season ending injury on a oppoenent but itd be nice to see wilson out a game or two so SEA can rack up some losses.
Got to hand it to Wilson, he is a tuff guy but so was RG3 and look how it turned out for him. He doesnt seem to know when to stop and that can end up ruining his career sooner or later. i dont know how you play on a high ankle sprain like that. He must have been on some painkillers

Kelly, Modkins and especially O'Neil have to wear this loss more so than the players. None of those 3 had this team ready to compete on Sunday vs a team who is/was offensively struggling to say the least. We were flat right from the start for such an important game. Down by 14 and Kelly/Modkins run 3 straight run plays. Not creative run concepts, but the read option again and again.
O'Neil has not proven to me that he's qualified to have this defense at a top 10 level. He made John Lynch eat his words when he was asked what he liked so much about our defense during the telecast by his partner. LOL

And I really agree with Sus and Kolohe about Hyde. Annoyed the hell out of me too!
Looked like we weren't prepared all around and just came out flat.
Gotta blame the coaching and the players.
Most years I'd agree with you, but Gabbert is so bad that I can't blame him for wanting to run the ball on 1st and 2nd down. Good things rarely happen when we pass the ball.

Amen to that brother. We've only needed that going on about 10 years now.
.. and regardless of who the QB is, I would probably lob it up to him on 5-10 plays a game. No different then what Russell Wilson did in this game to Baldwin & Jimmy Graham.

Team came out flat. Unprepared. Didn't make adjustments quickly. Honestly it appeared Seattle's o-line would flow to the right and Michael would cut back and gash Buckner's side of the d-line over and over in the 1st quarter. LB's getting caught up in traffic.
Definitely noticed Buckner on a few plays stand up their LT but he would shed the tackle and pick the wrong side to attack. Have to stay patient there and use the T as an extra defender and then when you need to make the tackle, shed to the right side. He's young, he's going to make those mistakes.
Overall team just looked deflated after a long road trip back from Carolina. Schedule makers have honestly done us no favors on such a young team.
Blaine Gabbert poses absolutely no threat at all to a defense.. especially with play calling like that. Could we just stop the swing passes in to the flat already? I would like to know our success rate on those. I think we had 1 work in the preseason. How about some screens? Something else creative in the playbook to make Seattle think a bit more. A very vanilla offensive game plan. It's almost as though Chip Kelly was throwing in the towel when they were down 14-0. Going for the field goal after the turnover when you're down by 2 TD's against Seattle's defense? Smart call.
There wasn't much at all I liked in this game. A very deflating feeling.. much like Arizona & Pitt games last year in the early part of the season. I didn't feel like this last week after the loss to Carolina. Better find a way to respond or else it could be a long dang season.

The team is 1-2 which is where just about everyone expected them to be at this point so I'm not sure I understand all of the hand wringing that is going on. The issues that plagued them last year remain. No pass rush, a defense that gives up big plays way too often, an offense that is failing to find any consistency, limited talent at the WR and inadequate play out of the QB position. However, they are one of the youngest teams in the league right now so I really look at this as a learning and rebuilding year, a year to find out who you have on the roster and how you need to make it better.
I had really hoped that Gabbert might step up this year and really show that he belongs as an NFL starter but so far that hasn't materialized. I suspect Maiocco called it when he said that if there is going to be a change it will happen after the Arizona game when the team goes into its bye. Which will give Gabbert two more weeks to try and get it together. Beadles has been pretty good so far but maybe they need to start getting Garnett into the games to see if he can help improve the running game.
It is beginning to look like Eli Harold is going to turn into another Corey Lemonier and Carradine remains a non-factor. I wonder if they will bring Rush up at some point to see what he can do. Getting Lynch back will help but they need to find a way to get more pressure on the QB. Sucks that Armstrong went down, he looked like he was starting to come on as a player.
Saw that Garrison Smith was in a few snaps. I really wish we had kept him as I think Purcell has sort of maxed out his level of play. He is OK and will occasionally show up in the stat line but I'm not sure he'll ever be a difference maker.
Those long completions are really becoming killers. Some of them have just been great plays by the receivers but they are happening way too often for it just to be an accident. Brock seemed to be the one getting victimized last night and Bethea seemed to end up chasing a lot of plays, maybe its time for Tarrtt to take over there.
I thought the horse collar call on Wilson was a bit suspect but that's the way it goes sometimes when you're getting you're ass kicked.
One of the announcers said the team was leading the league in 3 and outs which was my concern going into the season. Lots of blame to go around for that stat but it will kill them if they can't find a way to address it.
On the plus side, Ahmad Brooks played a great game, hopefully, when Lynch gets back the two of them can start creating some havoc, For the second week in a row Burbridge made a terrific play on special teams. I saw that he was in a bit at wide receiver towards the end but there doesn't seem to be any quit in the kid so I really hope he will get a chance. We need that kind of attitude on the field.
Looking forward to Dallas to see what happens next and hoping they can come away with a win. Go Niners!!

3) Buckner: I have big hopes for him so don't get me wrong, but has he looked a bit invisible to you guys this season? I just haven't seen much from him. Now he's a 3-4 end so I realize he isn't going to pop on every play, but I just haven't seen much. I also realize he's young and learning on the job so I'm giving him a pass. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing what I am.

9) Murderers Row: OK. They are finally through the Murderers Row of front 7s. That is probably the worst 3 game stretch they'll see of defenses. The Cowboys and Cards will present their own challenges, but those were the best fronts they'll see all year (and they'll see 2 of them again). NOW I want to see if this O can get untracked. NOW I want to see if they can get this run game going and yes, I'd like to see a diff QB.
I thought DeFo had a bad game against the run. It seemed like SEA ran specifically at him. I saw him get blocked with TE on one play and that can't happen to a 290 pounder. SEA loves to go 3 WR to put the defense in nickel, then run against that.
That was such a back breaking drive when SEA overcame two offensive holding penalties to score a TD on their second drive of the game. For an OL that was supposed to be bad, they looked just fine. I would have liked to see the 49ers challenge the WRs more and put a safety over the top to discourage the deep throws. Maybe that was happening and the players just didn't execute.
The passing game needs to look functional against DAL next week. DAL has plenty of experience against Chip's offense so we'll see if he can add any wrinkles that make it less predictable.

Very much like last season. New coach, look good in week 1, back to earth week 2 and embarrassed in week 3. No real QB to save us from ourselves.

The game changer was the horse collar tackle. We had a chance.
