Ugg. MAN I hate Seattle.
1) Gabbert: Really not much to say. Was Gabbert THE reason they lost? Nope. Did he do ANYTHING to prevent it from happening? Nope. League worst yards per completion.
This isn't all his fault. Not by a long shot. He doesn't really have many weapons...but he is SOOOO risk averse and so seldom lets plays develop that he is effectively completely inefective. I'll just leave it there. Not much else to say.
2) O-Line: Again...good in pass protection and not so great run blocking. Facing a great D-Line and front 7 for 3rd straight week and really not allowing much pressure. Some of that of course has to be attributed to Gabbert getting the ball out quickly even when he shouldn't, but they are protecting for him. Huge upgrade this season.
3) Buckner: I have big hopes for him so don't get me wrong, but has he looked a bit invisible to you guys this season? I just haven't seen much from him. Now he's a 3-4 end so I realize he isn't going to pop on every play, but I just haven't seen much. I also realize he's young and learning on the job so I'm giving him a pass. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing what I am.
4) Blair: Where'd he go? I was so excited to see him get some playtime after the preseason and I've seen almost nothing from him. I know he isn't starting but he's been in there and he's not getting there either.
5) Brooks: Brooks actually had himself a game. I dunno how long it lasts but he's been playing pretty well this year.
6) Harold: Outside of injuring Wilson, dude has been invisible. The Niners desperately need some rush from the OLB position. Tank Carradine isn't doing anything. Aaron Lynch can't get back fast enough.
7) Ward: That hurts. Don't know how bad he's hurt but he was really starting to play well. Yeah, he had some trouble with Benjamin, but I think Ward might really have a bright future at CB.
8) Hyde: Garbage yards at the end there but I don't care. Was still nice to see him find some space and score twice. Obviously the D was relaxed, but was still nice to see.
9) Murderers Row: OK. They are finally through the Murderers Row of front 7s. That is probably the worst 3 game stretch they'll see of defenses. The Cowboys and Cards will present their own challenges, but those were the best fronts they'll see all year (and they'll see 2 of them again). NOW I want to see if this O can get untracked. NOW I want to see if they can get this run game going and yes, I'd like to see a diff QB.
10) Rebuilding Year: We always knew this wasn't going to be a playoff year. We all knew that going in. This year to me is really an extended Preseason. Its just taking stock of what you have and what you still need. There are good pieces all over the team and they are playing youth at almost every position. Long run, they'll be better for it. Short term, there is going to be some ugly losses.
Strap up because this may not be the last ugly loss on the schedule...but I'll bet there are going to be some surprises this year and at the end we are all going to have a much better picture of what they have and what they still need.

One thing i see missing Marvin is any critique of this coaching staff.
Gabby needs to be benched
Beadles Kilgore and Brown are struggling in the run blocking. Pass pro is the highlight of the team so far this season
Tank and Harold are invisible. Brooks is playing a lot better than i thought he would. Props to him
I'm not seeing Buckner or Armstead making any plays.

Honestly I'm not sure what to say.
Kelly is Kelly. He does what Kelly does. Remains to be seen if this is a system or player issue.
On D I see WAY too many long, chunk plays particularly on 3rd down. Fluke? Talent? Scheme? Dunno whats up with that yet.

Tell that idiot Hyde to stop flexing when scoring garbage time TDs.

Maybe he should line up right during the first offensive play of the game.

Marv, good write up as always.
I really didn't like Kelly coming out and pulling a Harbaugh. Run,Run, Pass, on the first few series. What the hell?
And I really agree with Sus and Kolohe about Hyde. Annoyed the hell out of me too!
Looked like we weren't prepared all around and just came out flat.
Gotta blame the coaching and the players.

Yea lets trade the only offensive weapon we have because he flexes when he score TDs. That'll work well.

Sucks for Ward getting injured. But man, why is a starting corner playing ST in the first place? Goes to show the true lack of depth on this team.

Right on assessment of Gabbert. I had just finished watching the game myself. He didn't do much, but so goes the whole offense. I listened to the game yesterday, and by Tim Ryan's description every pass by Gabbert was a bad pass lol. Sounds terrible all game. That's not how it was watching the game.
Seattle with their physical DBs exposed what we all thought this offensive personel needed going into this season, a physical receiver, when we lost Boldin.
We have Kerley, Patton, and Smith trying to bang around the short and medium part of the field. None of them are adequate. You have Kerley getting between the zones but he's not going to body position or shield to catch a pass on anyone at 5'9. Patton couldn't get out of a jam between the sideline and the DB 15 yds downfield to get to the ball thrown to him.
Maybe with Smith and McD we could have a nice combo of speed and size/speed with both guys to attack the medium and deep. But McD wasn't available. Celek has size but not the speed.
So you have guys that couldnt make a play to get 4 yards on 3rd&4 because they can't fight to get open or the catch.
Maybe Gabbert should force something deep like it's a punt. Frustrating game. Like the Browns game of last year.
Do we need to talk about the defense
