I rarely post, partly because I usually post in the wrong section so apologies if this is the case.
Curious though what the forum thinks about recently cut players they would like the 9ers to sign.
I have 3 players that I feel would be an instant upgrade.
Wr Cecil Shorts- We are beyond thin at wideout and I feel he could be our wr2 opposite Smith
Te Jace Amero- big, strong, young. Play behind Vance with upside to take over Te1
CB Dee Milner- athletic, young and maybe hungry now. Can never have too may cbs.
Hope to read some positive feedback and hear what y'all think
Cheers

Yeah, I think Shorts would be an upgrade. I haven't seen such a lackluster bunch of receivers than what we have on the 53.

I'm very confused about picking up Kerly and buddy I've never heard of who we traded for today. Too many good Wr available via trade for cheap yet the niners seem to plug in duds and think they will produce

Of these three Shorts offers the most intrigue to me. Both he and Milliner are injuries waiting to happen though. I think the team has plenty of youth/upside in their secondary but Shorts is effective when he's healthy and would probably be one of our top three receivers when he walked in the building. Plus he has some familiarity with Gabbert. I wouldn't be against bringing him in. He's an above average route runner and has enough rac ability to be effective in Chip Kelly's scheme. I think he'd be a good stop gap for this season atleast.Originally posted by WeWillWinAgain:I rarely post, partly because I usually post in the wrong section so apologies if this is the case.

WR Justin Hunter:
6' 4", 201 lbs., 4.36 speed, 25 years old. He was drafted in the second round by the Titans and put up 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns over three seasons. He's coming off a broken ankle and kinda got lost on a talented WR depth chart in Tennessee. The guy has more potential than Burbridge IMHO. Also, his mom says the 49ers are interested:
"It's time for him to move on," Gloria Hunter said on Saturday from her home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. "… He probably wouldn't have a lot of playing time there. They had nine receivers and they brought people out of retirement, but it's all right because he has teams looking at him. He is going to get picked up. San Diego is looking at him, the 49ers, Miami and the Redskins are too."

I remember studing him in the draft. He ran a great time and has ideal size. Go get him Baalke.

Because it makes too much sense, and we're talking about Baalke and receivers here. He'd much rather pick up another scrub that he pays minimum wage to.

The WR group does seem to be thin (of course, there's always a small chance somebody will "click" that hasn't particularly in the past; Patton for example). But I think the WR group through most of 2013 may have been as weak. Boldin was a savior, but until Crabtree came back in the last few games of the regular season (and even then he was still not near his previous best) the WR cupboard was not very well stocked - anyone remember Marlon Moore? Thankfully Vernon Davis was having a career year.
