Also high draft picks are no guarantee of success for example Goff is currently 3rd string, the Rams are in even worse limbo due to his selection. Not for me personally.
This is how we will arrive to our draft slot, regardless of what the popular fan sentiment of the moment is. This team will not "tank" or rest starters for draft position. Time to move along now.
No one is saying the players or coaches will or should try to lose games on purpose.
I want our players to play hard and lose 13 games albeit with an improved +/- and some flashes of talent from young players. Last year, we were the 2nd worst team in the league, but got stuck picking 7th. This year, I'm hoping for the opposite (play like the 7th worst team, but end up with a #1 or #2 pick).

Myles Garrett is mouth watering when you consider all the other young talent that'd he'd be joining. With him, the 49ers would be building one heck of a young defensive nucleus.

Answer to question:
We already sucked last TWO yrs...now is the time when we get it going. This yr for the guys to learn to play together, OGs with OTs, OGs with C, DLs w/ LBs, NT w/ DTs or DEs, LBs w/ DBs, QBs w/ WRs and TEs, and so on. That should take full yr. same time we learn if Kap or gab are our Franchise QB or not...if so great. If not, we have the better of Kap or gab to start next yr and bring in our FR QB along slowly. We plan sacrificing our top 3 picks in 2017 & 2018 to get our FR QB. But once we have him this team is young and almost set except for ILB , OLB, and a #1 WR...oh ...and we got a top notch OC/HC.
Who ever would have thot anything close to that at end last yr when we had zilch?

No choice but no guarantee of long term success.

LOL. After 17 years it's looking like you might be right about that. We can still hope for the return of such days, or close to it. If our current HC is any good we just need to get lucky enough to find the next HOF QB for him to coach.Originally posted by SoCold:Lol we won 5 Super Bowls and had 2 HOF QBs in a row. This.
Not sold on Watson, would rather have JT Barrett in the 2nd or 3rd.

Yes, suffering for a year in order to secure a high draft pick is worth it, IMO.
