Patterson's fifth-year option was declined on Monday. He will have to make the team as a return specialist because snaps at wide receiver are far from guaranteed. At least we'll always have this memory:

Dude can't run a route to save his life lol

He can't run routes correctly and will even run the incorrect route.

Asked what happened on the play, Zimmer said, "Yeah, there was miscommunication." Then asked if Patterson ran the wrong route, Zimmer replied with a smirk, "Probably -- if you were a betting man."

lol

I think that's the game plan...Patton and Ellington need actual snaps to see if there's a future here.

Lol I remember everyone was all over this kid in the draft smh.
Question, "What the heck...at WR?"

Answer: "One helluva lot different than the last 5 yrs."

Aside from Rogers and Burbridge, this is the same crew as last yr. And we know just as much about them now as we did when all of them joined, (different yrs)....which is damn little. This is Harbaw football, draft, play vets, draft, play vets, and repeat. Never anywhere in there will you come across, "develop players" because it didn't happen. Sure some guys like Willis got coached up, same for Justin ( who got coached up a lot here). But mainly, unless it was a vet, guys didn't get to play or if they did, we're not used much. Yes, some of that was the 2 1/2 yrs of Kap, but most of it was HC and OC play calls. Basically WRs got to play but only 1 or occasionally another
REALLY got to play. It was the epitome of how not to coach a NFL team. We literally went into 4 drafts with Harbaw not knowing what was on the bench or even on the field. He had , or kap had, a favorite, Crabs, then Quan, but even then it was not much of a WR threat. And Harbaw had no interest in seeing what any of those guys had in the tank. Tomsul...he doesnt' even count, because he had zero idea what he was doing out there. Basically, chip is inheriting Torrey and that's it. The rest, just never got much of an opportunity, and certainly didn't have a chance to show the HC what they could do. Actually, Torrey didn't get to show much either.

So for a huge change, we are about to find out if we have 8 stiffs or 3 or maybe a whole bevy of great WRs. More than likely we will find we have a few with real talent, a few with some talent and then, some with NO talent. But finally, we are at least going to know. There isn't a fan here who knows what we have at WR. I bet the WRs themselves don't know what is there. But absolutely guaranteed, that come 1st game of the yr, CHIP will know. And man has that ever taken a long time to happen. Good news is it will,...finally...happen.

Verdict:Basura

Example A why being big and fast doesnt make you a good NFL receiver. Might be the worst route runner in the NFL. Dude is out there running around like he's got clown shoes on.

When the story on a college receiver goes "Big and runs really fast----but needs to learn how to run routes-----, it often doesnt end well.

Thats like a QB that is really big, has a cannon for an arm but is still learning to throw the football. In college you can win with superior athleticism and size, in the NFL everyone is either a superior athlete or extremely smart and savvy.

I think Trent got the WR position confused with the CB position... no biggie ... he remembered we had a need at one of those spots and Trents good at drafting CB's... not so much WR's

Smelter hasn't played in a game yet either.

I am not worried. Like you say, Chip will figure out who can play and who can't. No one has had much of an opportunity behind Boldin and Smith.

To save money, he's going to have the CB's play Wr and go both ways.

the OP needs to go back and look at the past 5 years of Super Bowl Champion rosters and post the WR group from each team.
