There wasnt any caveats to his statement though. Simply that Gore isnt the best player to ever put on the number 21 for the 49ers. Which is technically true.

I think they need to do something about retired numbers.. there is going to be waaay too many at some point. Like Yankee players and whatnot. Maybe retire the last name/number combo. Like a YOUNG/8 thing, but 8 is available.

Weve had this discussion before. There are 53 roster spots on an NFL team. The 49ers currently have 17 that are not usable. That leaves 29 un-used numbers. So by the time we run out of numbers due to retirement it will be about 130 years from now.
There are zero issues with the total of retired numbers currently, or going forward. Im not sure why some people are so upset by the fact that some numbers just arent available. Nobody should ever wear number 16 for the 49ers again. Joe Montana earned that honor.

I'd feel sick to if I thought 85 shouldn't be Worn again VD wasn't all that... Now #97 B.Y. should be retired and put in tha ring of honor for all he did for our team great leader one of tha last great 49ers IMO
