It still hurt when we passed on Scooby Wright in round 7!

I have a feeling Donald butler will be a niner. He would be a good 1 year prove it deal. 27 years old

Could be solid depth and push-starter indeed.

This most likely means, Bowman and Hodges will play mostly straight up and more down hill. We're going to be in dime and nickel a lot (if you can't tell from the pickups). In addition, Tartt will be coming in to play the robber which means either Bowman or Hodges will be sub'd out. He's REALLY our 3rd ILB. Then we have depth in Skov and Wilhoite.
This. It's easy to get upset but you have to remember the personnel groups that will play most.

Hodges came on stronger in the latter half of last season I thought. This season, would not be surprised to see him win the starting job next to Bowman. Hodges still has upside.

Probably be Bowman and Hodges with Wilhoite as a solid back up.

In the meantime we just need Hodges, Wilhoite, or Skov to be able to handle duties in base defense. I think when we go Nickel and Dime we'll sub-in Tartt in a hybrid LB/S role. Bethea or Ward starts at safety with Reid.
I was thinking the same thing. The cardinals use one of their safety's in similiar fashion, he possibly even starts in the base package ( deon buchannon).

Not sure why this is so hard to understand...Tartt was playing this same robber role last year to start the season UNTIL Bethea got hurt and it forced us to move Tartt back to S.

is it also true this was a really bad draft for this position?

Hodges came from a 4-3 they need more time to evaluate him. He has all the physical tool to be a good ILB tho.

2/3rds of the time they'll be playing with bowman as the only ILB on the field with Tartt in the joker role.
I'm not a huge fan of the other guys, but hodges, wilhoite and skov are totally serviceable.
Remember too that in our division the Rams are the only team that aren't likely to be going wide for most of the game.
#2 ILB in a 3-4 is just a much lower priority than it used to be.

Gerald Hodges. End of Story....for now. Who were they going to draft that is better than what they have now.
Much rather Buckner and Garnett.
