My first thought was "oh sh*t we're screwed for years to come". My second thought was "Ryan Leaf". Of coarse the answer wont be known for years but if the Lams end up w/ an All Pro we're in bad shape BUT if they end up w/ a Rick Mirer or the like THEY could really be f#%ked. What do you think?

I think this essentially ensures we get one of the six best players in this draft. I had neither of the QBs as one of the seven best players anyway

it will make us go inside linebacker or defensive line or offensive line just like we were going to in the first place.

I think Walsh said you draft defensive talent and you develop offensive talent. We have the coach to do just that

i think were better off. neither of those dudes is worth a top pick, we have a QB even if the media hates him and we can get a top 4 defensive talent in the whole draft or the best LT in the draft if the teams in front of us are stupid enough. plus the rams just mortgaged their whole future on an unknown. trading all your early picks for two years for one player is stupid to me when you think about all the great players you get in the later rounds every year and all the busts in the 1st

I don't think it affects us at all. I don't believe we were taking a qb in round 1 regardless.

If TPTB were aiming for one of the consensus top two QBs in this draft it means we can probably kiss that idea good bye.
Does that mean we are screwed? I'm not sure. Obviously we need a QB who is the heir to Montana and Young, but are either Wentz or Goff that?
If you believe they are, then maybe we are screwed. If you don't see them becoming great NFL QBs, then not at all.
I'd like to have Goff but I don't know enough to say he would be that heir apparent.
We also need to build a team to surround whoever the next great 49ers QB may be, at this point the roster still has too many holes which need to be filled.

Yes he did draft him. Walsh was a superior judge of talent though and saw something there, and also with a few other offensive players who were not round one picks, lol... Like a certain QB he took and developed.
Just because he believed in a philosophy overall doesn't mean he didn't make exceptions. But in general his philosophy was,and is, still sound.
