Benching Alex Smith with no truly good reason to do so.

Whether you believe CK was the more explosive player is not the debate here.

What the point is is that the benching created an aura in the locker room that was very hard to shake and after that SB loss things got progressively worse for this team and it's chemistry.

They had to win the SB for that move to be truly validated in the eyes of the other 51 guys, management and ownership.

Courting Peyton Manning and lying about it comes in a close second. That set off the pattern of untruths within the locker room and the team just really hasn't recovered well.
