Given The fact that we have an offensive minded coach, I would have to say that the offense will probably improve quicker.
Well...Unfortunately in order for our offense to improve, we are going to need a quarterback that is at least above average.
As I'm sitting here thinking about it more, I'm actually starting to think that it will be the defense. Finding a good quarterback is the hardest thing to do. And until that happens, I don't see us making any kind of significant improvements.

There is no doubt about this. Offense can not get worse than it was. It will improve MILES above what the D will do.

Haven't voted either way yet, but bear in mind the OP said which will improve FASTER, not FURTHER.

Let's see...ESPN ranked the 9er offense at 31 and the defense at 29, so I'm going with offense improving more! I'll guess that both are going to be mid-level next year. However, a lot depends on the draft and free agency. If they can find some veteran OLmen to join the team it will be offense--due to Kelly's system. If not, the defense can improve just by developing.
If you look back a couple of years, the defense was top five but the offense has been so-so. Kelly will change that balance.

I still wish Mangini was here...wanted to see what the DBs would do in the second year of the system(s). If they can't find a pass rush the defense will still be bad...

A good/great defense will make up for not having a franchise QB. This past Super Bowl proved that again.
The offense stands to have the greatest chance to improve if only the OL gets healthy and the gaps get filled. That will be easier than finding an elite pass rusher to turn the defense up a couple of notches.

I think having a healthy Hyde can improve the OL. Once Hyde got banged up, our OL was exposed up until we started getting the ball out quicker. But even that wasn't enough to keep moving the ball.

I really hope Hyde can stay healthy. For the great ability he has, the one ability he lacked last year was avail-ability...

Chip is an O guy so I would suspect O. But from reading about him, he seems to be involved with D also, and i wonder if he turns out to be a great O coach, who also oversees the D...kind of like Coach Walsh did. Do not want to compare the two, as that is silly. But what if chip happens to be a real HC and spends equal time with his D? Is it possible we get a lot better on both sides of the ball? Now that would be one heckuva turn for us. A good coach on both sides of the ball, who is known for his inventiveness.
if so, please Chip, bring it on.

Tough call. Defense is easier to install, so my bet is on that. Like I said though, it's a tough call.

our offense will be more versatile and less predictable , even though Kelly's offense is much different than anything we've ran before, it will be fun to watch, and it will be more aggressive than recent years, it may take a bit for the offense to run as Kelly envisions it to function , but we'll still have a creative offensive mind at the helm , and our attack will be more exciting to watch

I say the defense will. It may not show it in the stats, which are for losers, but I don't think there will be much change over with the starters and with some new leadership after loosing so much last year they will play better. They are going to be on the field a lot with Chip Kelly's offense but they will look better then the offense this year.

once we acquire a new starting ILB to run with Bowman, a couple of new pass rushing OLB's , and hopefully we land an anchor for the defensive line in free agency , our defense will improve dramatically , last year we had no pass rush, and our defensive line was not once mistaken for an intimidating line ...this year we have a chance to change that, all those picks and cap space will go a long way towards fixing our defense ....I don't think we need , if any new DB's , we have enough depth at safety and CB, to compete at a high level , Armstead should improve, Lynch and Bowman are set as starting LB's , now we need some teeth to our front 7 , and I have a feeling Trent will land us some tough pieces to add to the mix
