What if we could draft a LB that had speed 99. Then he could run really fast and make a tackle.

Baalke seems to totally suck at drafting offense, but he's done a pretty good job at defense. I'd say stick to what you're good at, draft defense and sign offense in free agency.

If they lost to Chicago, they would be picking 3rd right now instead of 5th, not really a big deal.

I think it would be 2 since we lost head to head with Cleveland.

This is a team that should be picking first. Not sure how it was able to win any games. Stupid Chicago kicker!
It just goes to show you how bad the NFL is as a whole.

Just the fact that we're (competing) with Chicago (greatest coaching staff ever assembled) and Dallas (we're going to the Super Bowl) and Chargers (Rivers 4,600 yards) speaks volumes to the parity in the NFL right now and lack of critical depth because of it.

I know, I was pissed when Gould missed that FG at the end of regulation. In a meaningless season, we might as well come away with it, with a high draft pick in each round. Us winning that game, reduced the value of our picks, and made it a little harder to wiggle up and down. But, it is what it is, and we hopefully will still draft in the top 5, so not TOO MUCH harm, just a little in that Chicago win.

It would be interesting to do a history review and see if there talky is a difference between the #3 or #5 or #8 pick.
I have a feeling it's not that big of a deal.

It reduces your options quite a bit. Go look at what it costs to move up from Pick #8 to get to Pick #3, or even getting from Pick #8 to Pick #5.
My feeling is that if you're going to be bad and put up some real stinkers.....be really bad and capitalize on it and acquire the best possible talent that you can get.

Agreed that it increases your freedom and probability to pick a better player but my *guess* is, in reality, it hasn't made that much difference over history (value)? In fact, typically the top 2-3 spots, are usually so predicable, the better trade partners may be from 4 on?
Just typing outload here...

I don't think we should go QB so high, I don't believe Goff or Lynch are worth being top 10 picks, but it will likely happen, but I wouldn't draft either in top 5-10 picks.
You still like Nkemdiche that high even after his latest idiocy?

Jaylon Smith the LB that was projected as a high 1st Rd pick yesterday had a significant knee injury. Baalke is writing his name and sealing it in an envelope for the upcoming draft.

This!! That's why I was soooo pissed off they beat Chicago in a meaningless hollow win. Robbie Freakin Gould!! 49ers woulda had the #1 or #2 overall if Gould makes that kick.
Is really coming back to haunt us now.
