You can't really blame them, can you? They've worked out that the coaches won't do it themselves without some extra "prompting", so they decided to go over their heads. Man, is this team in a mess.

4.62 40 at the combine (Kaep was 4.53, Manziel is 4.68), 33.5" vertical, 120" broad jump, 6.84 3 cone (all better than Kaepernick). Athleticism is not a problem. Like Kaepernick, he has almost no pocket presence.

STRENGTHS Gabbert has prototypical size and excellent speed for the position. Shows the ability to make the right pre-snap reads. Possesses a quick release and has the arm strength to make all the throws. Well-balanced passer that rarely misses on short-to-intermediate throws. Extremely mobile to extend plays and fast enough to move the chains. Vocal leader and hard worker.

And a good portion of us are rooting for high draft picks anyways. This offense sucks with Kaepernick under center. If it sucks worse with Gabbert, who cares?

It's less about Gabbert than it is about not wanting to see Kap any more. Benching him basically closes that book, and ensures we don't have to endure 3 more years of a mediocre QB... Just like with Alex Smith, nobody wanted to see David Carr, they were just seriously tired of Alex Smith!
