Before that....York takeover. Now they have ownership that cares more about profits than the sport itself. What they don't get is, winning will bring in more profits.

3 things :
1) Firing Harbaugh and then not replacing him with a legit HC and coaching staff (not only that, but we ended up hiring a bunch of scrubs)
2a) Players leaving
2b) Once the veterans decided to retire, it totally exposed Baalke's inept drafting for years
3) Kap's putrid performance
But, if you had to narrow it down to 1 thing, then is Jed York. Once he decided to fire Harbaugh, the whole thing just snow-balled out of control.

It's the order of control that is to blame.
York blew it by firing Harbaugh instead of Baalke. So really it's on York.
Having said that, Baalke is still garbage.
I can't blame the poor players, they just do their best for horrific coaching. Who knows what would the season be like if we had Gase or someone reasonable?

Easily all the players that were lost, the replacements were either a down grade and at best the same talent level, nothing was upgraded.

Poor drafting over the past few years. Not using the extra picks to move up for better players and instead trading down for more pick who were either injured or dropped from the team. Or if they did make the team were not as good as higher round draft picks.
Basically we are a team who went from having the most first round picks on it to one which is loaded with 5th round picks.

s**t rolls downhill. baalke and jed are to blame for the s**t hole we're in.
they got lucky signing harbaugh and the NFL not being able to stop the read option for a couple years. Once the NFL adjusted, the 9ers couldn't.
Jed could've spent some money and brought in a legit staff, but instead, decided to save a few bucks and this is the result.
