I, like a lot of us, thought he was going to be a starter with Brock.

I don't think I've seen him on the field yet....what's up with that?

Good question. He didn't play any snaps on defense against GB. Ward played all the snaps in sub-packages, and did a pretty good job. We played Nickel most of the game.

Acker continues to get picked on. From what I've seen through 4 games, he has some talent and is playing hard, but Johnson is the better option at RCB imo. One of the many changes I would make to the lineup going forward.

I think Reaser took his snaps this week. Johnson has played this year

How many snaps did he have against Pittsburgh?

Johnson's snap count in each game:

MIN -- 20
PIT -- 17
AZ -- 20
GB -- 0

PFF also tracks their coverage stats. Johnson so far when targeted in coverage:

8 targets
2 completions
58 yards
1 pass defense
57.3 QB rating

More Harold/Lynch for actual pass rushing.

Ellington. No more Patton.

Purcell in rotation.

More AA for Dorsey.

Reaser on speed WR's, Johnson on bigger more physical WRs. Acker is fine but need better scheme to help.

If the OL gets destroyed this game, might as well look to Trenton Brown and Brandon Thomas (if up to speed).

Hayne in both punts and kickoffs.

More McDonald, Bell and Celek in the passing game.

Use our effing talent!
Add Easton and Tiller to that list. Hell I would cut Wright and promote McFadden to the 53. Tje is in the way of both Tank and AA development and adds nothing to the D line.

Some players on defense were impressed with Tiller. Said he consistently moves people and should get a shot.

Bumping this one from a few months ago. Looks like the youth movement is turning out nicely. It was a scratch year but our young players gained a lot of experience and quite a few look to be very promising.

Still can't wait for Ward to replace Reid.

I still wonder how good Aaron Lynch really is. Is he better than Aldon Smith since Lynch is basically getting things done without the help of Justin Smith and with an inexperienced DL next to him?

Hodges looks good.

Tartt keeps shining with an occasional mental mistake.

Ward is settling in.

Williams, Armstead, Purcell...man, I think with a ROLB, this front can be awesome.

Still need more trent brown, andrew tiller and dontae johnson. Hodges could very well be our future at ILB if we didn't want to invest more into the position. He definitely should be playing over Wilhoite. Maybe Dorsey is cut to save 2.15 mil with only 691k in dead money and we start playing Purcell at NT especially if we re-sign Williams as the starter. Pears has to go for 250k dead with 2.1 mil saved. McDonald could be cut for 895k saved with only 249k dead. Not that we need the extra money but he should be strictly a 3rd te behind Celek if re-signed and bell. I'd draft a replacement and save the money personally... obviously he's too busy to hit a jugs machine.

Others... Simpson can save us 935k with 0 dead so he could be gone if we hit wr in the draft and if Boldin is back. Patton 675k saved with 97k dead... Lemonier 685k saved with 135 dead.

Only young players I see of note are Lynch. Tartt, Ward, and AA. In young I mean guys who have need in the NFL 3 years or less. Hopefully Tiller, Brown and Thomas can join that group but I just haven't seen them get enough playing time to make a judgement. The team has 0 play makers on offense.

Good post!

Reid looked like he was a bit hurt on one play.

Feel VERY good about Trent Brown.

Williams play very good and Dial had a good game.

Gabbert is a quality back-Up and no more. BTW, a quality back-Up is very important. Look what Hasselback has done for Colts.

Reid has the Vernon Davis complex and I think he's damaged goods. Similar to Vernon taking that hit by Kam, Reid has not been the same at playing downhill since the hit he tried to lay out Tolbert and got his first concussion. He simply tried to lay out the wrong player as Reid is/was a hard hitter but he is mentally damaged now.

About Gabbert: Just remember, he's still only 26 and getting his first real controlled experience this season. Unfortunately, it has been under terrible circumstances considering the OL and the injuries with talent.

At this point, you don't play any vets. If I'm the coach, I'm playing second, third, and fourth stringers from here on out. I pull out my preseason playbook and see which of them have grounding in proper football fundamentals. If they are at least fundamentally sound, they keep their roster spot and are in the offseason competition for my starting squad. If they suck ass, they're gone.

Let's be real here, we're in full on rebuild mode with oodles of cap space and what, 20$ mil in carryover space?
