Do we even know if Hunter is the same guy? That is a big assumption to make. Would be nice to see him get some work in preseason.
For the people who really want to keep Hunter, if we keep 4 RBs. are you in favor of placing Davis on the PS and risking it? I think he'll get snatched up.

As one of those who definitely wants to keep Hunter… Hayne gets a spot as a return specialist and Davis makes the 53 but is inactive. This roster has had 5 RBs in the past (including Miller), no reason it can't be done again to keep all these guys in red and gold.

Davis hits the hole very quickly and I didn't see the jukes in the Dallas game...although he will be playing behind a ZBS line and being able to flow along the line will be important. He plays low and is elusive. Not sure why you are not impressed. Hunter doesn't really add anything to the mix as he is not nearly as quick as Bush or Davis. So I see Davis as a developmental RB in the 4th spot, behind Hayne.
Not saying I wasn't impressed, but only at times. Can't believe you didn't notice all the extra cuts (maybe "jukes" is the wrong word) he makes before going downhill, especially when seeing how decisive Hyde is; one or two cuts then, boom, downhill! I think once they get Davis to stop making extra moves he may not need, he could very well be something special. I'm just not that impressed with him yet, to gush about him, or, to take him over Hunter. My qualms about Kendall, like almost everyone, is his durability, or lack thereof. Wish we could keep them both.

No, i think hunter stays
having too many good players is a good problem to have.

Hyde is a year ahead of Davis and is a quite different type of runner. What I saw in Davis is a guy who can flash through the hole quick as a wink and if there is an opening he will get through because he stays low. He is learning how to play behind a ZBS NFL line and figuring out how to read and react, which can cause a young RB to make more lateral moves as he's feeling his way...but that is also an asset with this type of blocking.
I'm not gushing about Davis...called him a developmental RB. Hunter is a slower, less quick, smaller version of Bush; so I just don't see his value as being that high. This is especially true given his injury history.

Hyde
Hunter
Bush
Davis
Hayne
Gaskins
Miller
Milliard
On 53:
Hyde, Bush, Hunter, Davis, Hayne, Miller
Cut/PS:
Millard
Cut:
Gaskins
I really think having V. Davis in the FB spot against Dallas was a sign that they'll hope to stash Millard on the PS. If you can have your TEs (Davis/McDonald/Celek) occasionally spot Miller for the FB spot you really do not need another FB.

Davis and Hunter seems similar to me. I think we end up keeping one of the two.

Bush and Hunter are only on a one year deal. Thinking long term, cutting Hunter might not happen if we can resign him cheap.
Looking into next year: Hyde, Hunter, Davis, Hayne. Not a bad little group.

Hunter is the odd man out. Gaskins can go back to the PS
This. But I don't like Davis, but I know that if we put DAvis in the PS, some team is going to put him in their 53 main.
If you don't like him why does that scenario matter to u

Davis has looked great. He will easily make the roster, and will spell Hyde this year while Bush will be used on 3rd downs and in the slot. I love Hunter, but don't think he'll make the roster. Unless we keep 5 backs. Which I think we should.

You can't put everyone on PS there is limited seating and will be based on who doesn't get picked on waivers by other teams and what the team feels it needs based on talent and what we are thin at.

I like Davis he hits the hole very well, when he hasn't, you can see that it is the OL's fault after getting blown up. The biggest mistake he made was tripping up Brown when he slid out of the backfield, that caused Gabbert to get tagged.

Whenever they show video of hunter in individual drills he looks great. There were reports in July of him looking explosive as ever. When he came back from his acl in 2013 he was the exact same back. I don't doubt it now.

Something i think is possible is trading hayne. Don't Want to. But I think it's an outside possibility. We don't have enough roster spots to keep all five without cutting someone elsewhere that might help the team.
