Who's going to be our #3

Technically our #3 would be Ellington

Yeah, we don't just use the same personnel anymore like back in the day (Rice, Taylor, Craig and Brent Jones).

All of our WR's will be moved around and used at all 3 of the WR positions (X, Y & Z), specific package personnel will be brought in, etc. I predict, when it's all said and done, Boldin will lead in yardage, T.Smith will be 2nd, collective RB's will be 3rd, followed by VD and Ellington and Patton. But you could end up having someone like Bell or Bush lead the team in receiving TD's.

this times infinity. of course i root for the two kids,, but simpson has a chip on his shoulder and can not be ruled out. we keep all three and we are more than good
If Boldin is in the slot than they will go with Simpson on the flank. His size and speed combination would put a lot of pressure on the D. The safeties would be hard pressed to cover Vernon, Torre and Jerome, all three can take the top off a defense.

Never thought about that. Thats actually kind of exciting. Boldin would slaughter people in the slot in that situation, plus the run game would open all the way up.

I think that it will be totally situational, because I dont think Jerome would be a great slot player and I think ellington and patton would thrive there.

don't be surprised if issac blakeney...is the 3rd option ...besides one play against the cardinals ...in 2013 what has he done ....I may piss the zone off but some of udfa wr might get patton released

The #3 WR would be lined up wide as the Flanker (Y) while Torrey Smith will hold down the split end (X) position, with Boldin in the slot. If this holds true, I see the competition being between Simpson and Patton.

Then again, Geep could go in a completely different direction with how Boldin is used.

Yep ^
Boldin will slide inside and off the line often, and when we go 3 recievers, I think it will be Patton coming in as the flanker
with Ellington as the #4 and primary return specialist

Simpson backs up the SE, though im hoping D.Anderson wins the job

My guess as to their "primary" positions but expect much "cross training" as well.

X: Anquan Boldin; Rory 'Busta' Anderson & Issac Blakeney (DeAndre Smelter)
Y (SLOT): Bruce Ellington; Darius Davis, Chuck Jacobs & DeAndrew White
Z: Torrey Smith; Quinton Patton, Jerome Simpson, Dres Anderson & DiAndre Campbell

Yes, with 8 TE's, I see them asking Busta (6-5 244 4.73) to lose 10-15 pounds and work the X WR position to be that big-body behind Boldin to be safe...just pure speculation. Blackeney (6-6 225 4.62) is the same concept as is Smelter (6-2 226 4.57)

For the Montreal Alouettes or what.

Bruce. 3rd receiver is typically a slot guy.

Except Boldin is more commonly the slot guy. If anything, I see Ellington as the replacement for Boldin in the slot once he's gone. I hope both Ellington and Patton step up, a future corps of Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington, DeAndre Smelter and Dres Anderson sounds good to me.

hey,, if he is the best and out plays him, more power to him. i just want the best , and do not care the names. good posters will not care, they just want the best guys on the team.. its all about opportunities,,, no one thought chris cook would be making the roster last year, and it was not because others sucked

Patton (IMO) has always been the 3rd best WR we've had.. he either just got injured (rookie) and wasn't given a chance because of the FA veterans that we signed last year..

Ellington has the better speed (obviously) but he isn't a better WR than Patton.. Patton is hungry and the kid can make plays..

Somehow I doubt that a guy who struggled to run routes in college and prefers to catch with his stomach and not his hands is much of a threat to anyone on the roster currently. Every year people get all hyped up on some UDFA, especially a wide receiver because they are big or really fast or big AND really fast and the absolute vast majority of the time it amounts to nothing at all. If Blakeney can make the practice squad, I think he'd be doing damn well.
Not sure. I think I'll take a #2 and think about it.
