Exhibit B: The Harbaugh Brand of Football
For the most part, wanted us to simply "better execute" the plan already in place. That was my absolute biggest criticism. Too often running into brick walls when there was an obvious adjustment available that even us fans could see that would've helped us.
I don't really agree with this. One of the three major reasons why the 9ers consistently had problems getting plays off on time under Harbaugh was because they were always sending in and calling two plays into the huddle and picking between those plays at the line.
If they were just blindly running into brick walls more they wouldn't have had nearly as many problems getting plays off.
My "running into brick walls" comment wasn't pertaining to us literally running the ball into a defense set to stop the run. I was actually talking about large scale schematics. I should've clarified I was simply making a metaphor to describe the stubbornness of either continuing to do what wasn't working, OR not continuing to do what was clearly working.
I felt like we had clear counter moves, schematically speaking (example: throw screen passes to counter pressure), but "stayed the course" too often when the opponent's game plan was stifling what we were trying to do initially.
one of the biggest shortcomings of the previous coaching staff was their inability to make halftime adjustments. and on the rare occasion they did make an adjustment, it was usually with negative consequences (i.e. Gore having success in the first half then completely abandoning him in the 2nd half)
