how did harris barton wear 79?
didn't jamie williams play with 72? .. no it was another name.. the guy we picked up from the broncos to play LT..
when u have a good team u will have good players, impact players... you can't go on retiring numbers of players that stuck in for the long haul and led the team in sacks, or rushing, or whatever. they need to have major impact on the league like montana, rice and lott..
and i still like the soccer idea, allow impact free agents that are superstars to wear numbers. so we don't have problem like montana going to chiefs and unable to wear 16..

Were running out? We will end up having 31 unused numbers. Practice squad guys numbers dont matter.
This, end thread

This comment always makes me laugh. "I've had my say. I'm right and you're wrong, now everyone be quiet!"

This year.
What about 10 years from now? 25? 50? 100?
Seems silly, but do you really think the NFL is going away? Do you think there will be no 49ers in 50 years?
The lack of long range planning here has me disappointed, but not surprised.

Like I said, if we retire 2 numbers every 15 years, which is generous, it will take 116 more years until we have retired enough numbers to run out of room.
This is a non-factor. The NFL will have killed their golden goose long before then. And in 2131 when we do run out, it will be safe to unretire Bob St. Clair.

1. 50 years from now a lot of us won't be here, or we will be old and grey, 2. 100 years from now none of us will be here, and 3. who knows how the NFL looks in 25-100 years, no one knows.
This is a non issue IMO.

97- Bryant Young.
To me, Gore and Willis are the ones I associate the most as 49ers, along with Rice and BY, as I grew up with those guys, I was never a SY fan, but still respect Young.
Gore, Willis & BY??? Having a number retired should be an even higher level than making the HOF. Gore & Willis aren't even HOF worthy IMO. BY is, but he's not retired-number worthy IMO.

uhmmmmm... i don't think 21 should be retired (for Gore)... nor Bryant Young's 97.. nor, Patrick Willis.. all three were awesome, but what they did was just not enough.. sorry, I love those 3 guys, but i just know it wasn't enough..
Eric Wright and Roger Craig did more for the team than these 3 guys... BYoung was never the same after the injury and only the OWNERS love for him was the reason why he was still playing even years after the injury..

I think it will be really tough...and if he makes it ...it's not going to be because of stats, but popularity contest

My son's soccer team played a tem this weekend, they had a number 3. They also had a number 03. Apparently the second kid just had to have a 3 on his jersey. So maybe 016, 042, 080 ??? LMAO
