QB Whisperer?
Re: your point re: Alex, yes, , JH did help him be all he could be. And yes, it turned him around. But likewise, looking at Kap's backward performance last yr...no one would argue he lost ground...was that kap, or was it like many of us think...it was HaRo? I saw a really gifted QB last yr not improve, make bad decisions, look his receivers down, hold onto the ball too long, take off too quick....and i wonder: was it kap, or was it the OC /HC and their predictable , laughable O Calls and game plans. Kap was a QB w/ an anchor around him last yr and the anchor, IMO, was romn and harbaw. Despite what JH did in the Alex situation, where Alex got noticeably better, JH killed Kap, the O, and the team with game planning and play calling right out of the 1960s. As for game planning, change of strategy at half time...OTC, it never happened.
It does make one wonder, if harbaw and romn could turn around Alex, why did they do such a miserable job on O last yr and a half with kap? Kap played better the yr before last, esp. the first half of the season. But the last yr and a half of offensive 9er football was atrocious. And less than 4 pts / 2nd half the last 8 games of the season proves it. Besides that, you didn't have to be a genius to see that the play calls put kap in a position not to succeed. He was a good soldier, never complained publically, but his frustration level must have been high, due to the level of play calls he got. Nah, I didn't see a great HC. I saw a guy who inherited a winning team's worth of talent, and took credit for it. At best, i could agree that he was a good talent organizer. As far as talent utilization goes, grade F. As far as talent development goes, grade F. As a playcaller, grade F. Yeah, romn made the calls, but he was doing JH's bidding. Those were harbaw playcalls. ...harbaw game planning. Now does kap share some responsibility? Yes, but mainly, it was the coaching...or lack thereof.
Last yr harbaw looked somewhere between confused and inept. He made his QB look bad. Looking back, i think his game plan was to let the D win it....and that sure doesn't get him any "offensive HC" award. Not in my book.
Back to the subject, i still think it is 10-6....based in part on strength of schedule. Also away losses to NFC West, SEA, Rams, AZ. I can see 6 legit losses. The E Coast tour looks incredibly tough.
