Has anyone else noticed that since T.O. we have not drafted a great WR,
We've drafted so many since then, and all have failed. I want to start this list off from 1998 since we had only 3 picks in 97 but no WR's.
1998 Ryan Thelwell,
1999 Tai Streets (always favorite, but not a great)
2001 Cedrick Wilson
2003, Arnaz Battle and Brand LLoyd,
2004, Rashaun Woods, and Derrick Hamilton
2005, Rasheed Marshall, and Marcus Maxwell
2006 Brandon Williams
2007 Jason Hill
2008 Josh Morgan,
2009 Michael Crabtree, Who isn't a great a receiver, in case bandwagons say he was.
2010 Kyle Williams, we all know how that played out.
2011 Ronald Johnson
2012 AJ Jenkins
From there it's Quinton Patton, and Bruce Ellington, which i feel like we don't give enough playing time to these guys, we never know how good they are until we stick them out on the field.
Which other than these guys, we've always tried to sign someone, and nothing has worked out since Boldin has come along.
I can only hope Torrey Smith brings some light.
But i really feel like were cursed in this category now, maybe were spoiled since we had Rice and T.O. but i've been waiting for that NEXT T.O. to come up.
I'd only wish we'd hire rice to recruit some WR's, he was right about Desean Jackson, we shoulda listened! But no, let's get Kentwan Balmer and Chilo Rachal who were both scrubs.
SMH! anyways....Just wanted to bring this to your guy's attention, which i'm sure a lot of you knew this INFO, but this is for the ones that don't.

How frequently is a truly great WR drafted? Probably less than one each year, throughout the NFL.

Yeah but we now have the former Baltimore Ravens starting WR tandem that beat us in the SB so that's pretty good, right?

Last year would be the exception.

How many great WR's has Bill Belichick drafted? I can't think of a single one off the top of my head.

Now go back through the list and annotate which round each one was taken in.
And a great light will dawn.

I was gonna say the same thing...but in fairness three of them were first round picks and two of them combined for 7 catches for 160 yards as Niners.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut, eventually. Hopefully this will be the draft Baalke finds one.

Maybe the football gods aren't allowing it since we had two of the best in history in back to back careers (rice & Owens)

Baalke has drafted ONE WR in in the 1st (30th pick) and the rest have been developmental picks in the 4th or later. Also looks at all the vets Baalke brought in that have taken snaps away from these young players...no excuses for the AJ pick, but Trent hasn't really tackled the WR position in the draft since becoming the GM IMO.
He was in SB mode and thought seasoned (old) vets would contribute more than rookies....
