Been reported Stevie Johnson and Ahmad Brooks safe for now or else more cap we are after Reggie Bush

Doubt we're keeping Johnson. Why pay that much for a 3rd WR?

Well boldin isn't going to play another 5 years. If we could cut his number down and extend him it would be a wise idea.

Let me make things perfectly clear about the cap room.

Currently we are $14M under, this is before knowing Torrey Smith's, Garrett Celek's, and Kyle Nelson's terms.

We will not have the cap room to sign AP and/or Revis.

We have to allocate roughly $5M for the draft class.

Only options for cap relief are Kap redo($7.724M saved), retirement of Cowboy(Under $4M saved), and cutting SJohnson($5.59M saved)

Also remember, Aldon is owed at a minimum of $2.889M for bonus payments that must be paid for in season. Plus he could earn an additional $2M.

I highly doubt we go after anymore big names, definitely not Revis and Peterson.

This means we'll probably be around $5M left after the Torrey Smith signing before any cuts/restructures. That said, we could outright save an additional $14M with the retirement of Justin, cut of Johnson and Brooks after June 1st. What FA will add more than Brooks and Johnson...factor to consider.

Until we get through the draft, we should probably hang on to Brooks at this point unless we get a trade offer we can't refuse. Brooks can play both the OLB and ILB positions in the 3-4 and has lined up there for our team as well. Would not put it past the staff to consider rotating him at both positions.
I'd cut Johnson, Brooks and have Smith retire. Don't like the idea of typing of 5 million in Justin Smith, just so he "might" play later in the year. If he wants to do that for 1-2 mil, maybe we'll talk.
More cap space will be on the way. Stevie will not be back at $6M. He will either be restructured or cut. Dawson will not be playing with a cap hit of $4.134M next year. Brooks will either be cut or restructured as well. Cowboy is going to retire.

We will likely add a change of pace RB, DL and a CB.
Brooks, Boone, Davis and Stevie should all be guys they take offers for. When the teams with cap space don't get all the FA's they want they might start sniffing around those guys.

We should extend Boone. He is valuable ad a guard and a 3rd tackle. He can play tackle at an all pro level and also brings a nasty attitude to the offense.
One good game against Robert Quinn doesn't mean he can play OT at an all pro level. Even if it did the 9ers can't afford to pay him like that. Dude is gonna want an Iupati like deal which the 9ers can't afford. Can't pay 3 OL huge money, reality of the NFL.

Smith is due 6.5 according to ab's site
It would be nice with cap room available if we would resign Culliver or Cox.

Stevie Johnson is no longer needed. We brought in 2 new receivers and have 2 up and comers already on the team to team with Boldin. We might even draft another receiver. Release him and use his money to sign 1 of our CB's.

All Pro level, eh?

Torrey Smith's cap hit this year is only $3.6M. Gives us some flexibility.

That would be my play as well. Aldon is always a question-mark and is Lynch ready to be an every-down player? We'll need a healthy rotation there for sure.
We might just keep Brooks if he can fix his attitude

Wow, that's terrific.
Matt Barrows said the 49ers are expected to cut Stevie Johnson today.
