Gonna miss his pregame speeches the most. Kap didn't do too good in that department last year. Need someone like Bowman, Bethea, Boldin, or even Dockett to take that role over.
Looking on the bright side what does this do for salary cap purposes?

Ray Ratto @RattoCSN
Very good for him. RT @Rand_Getlin: Source: 49ers are bracing themselves for the loss of LB Patrick Willis. Expecting him to retire.

The guy is still working out daily at facility. All his pictures are at the facility even with a boot on
He can't retire. Doesn't make sense.

So when they retire, that years salary is basically just eliminated?

IT sounds like the decision has already been made, no sense in dwelling on it. I am sure he had great reasons to do so and wish him the best of luck in the future!

That'd be my guess.

hate to see him go but if that's what he wants, good for him and I'm happy for him. Bow/Borland is still a great duo. and with the extra space, I know Trent will use it wisely.

yeah but he never posted bible scriptures every hour before a few weeks ago
What does being religious have anything to do with it?
The man has a belief, doesn't mean it's affecting his decision on football.
its not like OOP, I'M RELIGIOUS, GOTTA RETIRE FROM FOOTBALL NOW.
CMON now.
But if this is true, it's going to be a very Rough MONDAY!
