I double checked yeah he was. He was on the staff from 03-07.
Our special teams rankings have been pretty awful. Seely never justified his position here. If he had been retained when most others have gone I'd be really worried.
Looks like ST Coordinator might be the first filled spot: http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/article7786602.html

He only coached one year for the Jets.

Thomas Mcgaughey had the 16th special teams in NY in 2014. The year before they were 10th.

McGaughey was the Jets ST coach last season, ST rankings are as follows:

32nd punt returns
20th kick off returns

19th punt coverage
8th kickoff coverage

19th PFF grade
16th FO rank
Last year, based on the football outsiders rankings, 49ers were 24th on special teams. Jets 16th. With a much worse overall team than ours, it might be a good fit for McGaughey to come here.

Here we go again with "friend's connection bull crap"!!!

LSU may have had a great special team, but that's not because of this guy...

for the last 4 years, LSU had excellent talent on special team.. from Patrick Peterson all the way to the Honey Badger...

Why is Baalke makin it hard? The best special team coach is the guy in Stanford..

Very excellent and discipline in coverage with lesser talent...

Eric Branch ‏@Eric_Branch

#49ers are losing experience with new special-teams coach: Thomas McGaughey has spent 1 season as head NFL ST coach. Brad Seely: 26.

I imagine Bubba Ventrone and Kassim Osgood could be making a trip up I 880 if former #49ers ST coach Brad Seely ends up with the #Raiders.
