Vernon Davis what is he worth?

I'd let him play out his contract without a raise...that is unless he reverts to his pre-2014 form on a consistent basis. Injuries were a part of his lack of success, but he simply wasn't a viable threat. Drops, running 5 yd routes when it was 3rd and 6, ineffective blocking...his entire game struggled in 2014. Hopefully the new coaching staff can get a lot more out of him.

Tough call, if he were a possession receiver like Gates I'd chalk it up to a bad year. However, he is not a possession receiver and his game is built on speed. This past season I can't remember him diving for balls, the effort was not there. Maybe he's hurt. I think management is going to cut people and send a message to the team, shape up and deliver or be gone.

I just want his salary off the books. If we happen to get anything on top of that it's a bonus. Guy plays like he just isn't into football anymore.
Yeah, if he really was hurt then he gets a pass, but it looked more like he could run very fast, but just didn't seem to make much effort to catch the ball.

i know its doubtful..but the only way he stays is if he takes a paycut...and with that little hold out..he's gone
he wasn't hurt ..he's just another player that quit on this team

I think we could actually leverage this year into a below market extension. He's not earning 4.5 - 5 million (I think that's his contract) anywhere and isn't that player still. Make him aware he may be traded or cut if no lesser deal is reached.
Offer him a 2 year extension that knocks money off this year album gives him longer term he's looking for. I'd say make it a total of 3 yes for $9 million with incentives. Let him earn that money back if he's still got the talent.

Niner Talk, where if you have one bad year you must be cut.
Notable Players include (but are not limited to)
Vernon Davis
Colin Kaepernick
Patrick Willis
Frank Gore (even without a bad year lol)
The entire offensive line
Ahmad Brooks
and more!

He's a huge mystery. For some reason the guy lost it. I don't believe it's because of injuries. I would hope the coaching staff has a better idea and can make the wise judgement.

I love Vernon as a person. And I admit he is a specimen as an athlete. He is/was special as a deep threat TE, and apparently a pretty good blocker for a TE.
BUT, I have said this before and say it again, he is not a natural TE - so he is not a QB's "best friend" in terms of 3rd down and outlet receiver. He is not natural catching the ball, his hips have always been stiff, so his route running is fine for deep routes and stop routes, but his routes for outs, ins, and sharp cuts are not there. Watch his routes, they are very rounded angles, which make him easier to cover. His stiffness is even apparent on his RAC, he has to stop to cut and then is easy to bring down. He does not have soft hands, so he catches and holds the ball awkardly.
He is NOT a Tony Gonzales, Graham, Whitten, or Gates - big wingspan, easy target for QBs that can also gouge the defense - or even some of the other emerging 6'5" speed TEs that are becoming key targets for other teams.
All that being said, it is quiet astounding he has been so successful, and that is really a testament to him as a person and his work ethic. He had delivered a lot of big plays - he was Alex Smith's only trusted downfield target that he would throw to in coverage, and he was great as Colin's deep target as well. Thank you VD for that.
But his age and just a little loss of speed have defenses now able to contain him. I HOPE, if he comes back he proves me WAY wrong.
But, I think the 49ers would be just fine trading him and getting a more traditional TE that can present a big throwing window to a QB to keep the chains moving. I'd be way happier having that added to the offense.
all of this

Vernon blocked his heart out and you all want to cut him. Well ok then.

To a contender I'd say he's worth a 4th. To a team that is rebuilding he's worth a 6th. To the 49ers he's worth a 2nd. He's not getting traded.
