Boone needs surgery -- To make room for Holliday, the 49ers placed starting right guard Alex Boone (knee) and special teams ace Bubba Ventrone (groin) on injured reserve.

Boone has meniscus damage that will require an offseason procedure to correct, Harbaugh said. Joe Looney, who was inactive last week against San Diego, will start in his place. Harbaugh said Looney was deactivated for the Chargers game because the 49ers wanted another offensive lineman, Dillon Farrell, in uniform so that he could be a de facto No. 3 tight end.

So it WAS effing Iupati getting tossed on his ass that flew into the back of Boone that hurt him...see the sack-fumble-recovery TD.

I wonder if it also has anything to do with a trigger in his contract

No I doubt it. His incentives/escalators are tied to Pro Bowl, and All Pro honors, not play time, which he wasn't receiving IMO anyway. He looked like s**t this year, if he got 1st or 2nd team I would be shocked.
Reid is also out, efectively also on IR, makes it 19.

Yeah, this is really troubling.

How many other teams have experienced so many OLine injuries in one season?
Good. Maybe our new RG could block someone....

I wonder that too...18 or 19 players on I.R. plus other "hobbled" players that occupy roster spots but don't even suit up. These aren't just injuries...they are injuries to critical players at critical times.
