this would mean 1) iupati being let go 2)another lineman being let go. boone and AD have big contracts, and staley just re-signed (and boones extension just kicked in before this year, obviously)
or are you saying draft an olineman in first two rounds and make them sit behind our starters ?

I don't know where we begin in the draft. Our offense has no depth

You can never have enough depth on the OL. No matter how many you have, they all eventually get on the field. IMO we just have to trim the fat and fill in the blanks. If the guy can't play, get rid of him....
Staley, Davis, Boone....we are married to but everyone else needs to be assessed.
Iupati - no chance. We can pay an entire fleet of rookies to not block anyone.
Martin - has been inconsistent. I'd be willing to work with him at his price. His baggage issue was a non issue (actual positivity from our locker room!)
Kilgore - cheap enough, didn't really get a fair shot. His familiarity with C/G is invaluable. Even played some Tackle in our jumbo package in the 2012 season.
M. Martin - keep but has to compete for the job as backup. hasn't been a disaster.
Looney - forget it. I'm done. Classic example of trimming fat. he has played a lot and it has hurt us.
I'd draft best position available and see who makes the roster from OTAs, Preseason.

I'm just saying that they need to re-evaluate the entire O line. If that means getting rid of a guy or 2 then do it. I'm no expert but I can see that they suck. That's what the scouts and coaches are there for. Just bring in some strong, young O linemen and let them compete. If they beat out one of the vets, then play em. They just need some new talent on that line, and weed out the weaker guys. And at the very least, let them develop so when some of the older guys move on we will have someone to step up and replace them with

Hated the Iupati pick in 2010. Loved the A Davis pick in 2010 but dude needs to get & stay healthy. 49ers NEED TO ADDRESS THIS POSITION IN THE DRAFT ANNNNNNDDD FREE AGENCY. TO ME THIS IS THE #1B NEED BEHIND A DEEP SPEED WR ALA MOSS/T.O.

It's concerning, the fall off of Iupati since the ankle injury. I thought he was good until this year. Davis, nothing special but a keeper. I'm a proponent of continuity but it goes by season. The best o lines year in year out are lines that have played with each other for entire seasons, hold the injury or 2.
fact is, when we must have 1 yard and must count on 1 guy to win...where do we go? If that question can't be answere emphatically....we have problems.

A lot of our depth is injured...if we had everyone back healthy, I think we'd be a much better team obviously. Iupati is as good as gone.
Receiving wise. Crabs is gone and I think Boldin is too. I don't know where to start with possible replacements. Davis..I don't know what to do with. I would try to trade him for picks or something.

I hear Ya with the injuries. The gap between our run blocking and pass blocking has always been wide under Harbs but right now it has shrunk. We can't do either and the only reason there is a gap at all is we can kind of run block. Other than Chicago, I don't know who has a worse o line than us at this point....
Hard to get on here and point fingers elsewhere, that's why I'm in this thread. It all starts at the point of attack and if you can't touch a guy let alone block him, it's time to make individuals accountable.

I don't know how many times I've seen players after the snap double team a guy and let the opposing guy in front of them waltz in unblocked
Boone and Iupati especially

seymore is the browns starting center--and doing a good job.
explain why we didn't sign him off the browns PS, after seeing his good play for us in the preseason?

boone is good RT material. don't know why 49ers are blind to it.

yeah we have struggled with communication on blitzes for 4 years now. seems to center around solari as the problem. get rid of solari, pay tony sparano or maybe drevno big bucks. let iupati go, trade Boone or make him rt... make davis lg/rg. let martin/thomas/looney compete for the other guard spot. possibly pick a g/t high to compete at g/t as well. get some shake up, sick of these ol under performing year after year. of course our oc can help by having 1, 3 and 5 stop drops instead of 7 step drops every time. also, whats with boone pointing around (its not helping) and then tapping the center when he can snap it. it's not fooling anyone, its as bad as the qb in college touching the ground. who cant tell when the ball is going to be snapped when you do that? gives guys a great jump. also not snapping the ball at 1 every time would help with that too. and change your cadence more often too

We'd be 13-1 right now if somebody like Chris Dalman was our center

Want to bump this because it matters! This OL has been injured and is on it's fourth center. But as bad as it is to have injuries, it's worse to have the healthy guys playing poorly. I would like the niners to switch Boone to RT for the final two games but now Looney has to play center. If M Martin comes back next week then they could play around a bit with Boone at RT and Looney at RG.
For next year I would like to see them trade big and strong for tough and tenacious. If they can find both...great! Watching Boone pull is like watching a board turn around in the water. He gets too high and upright to get going...which slows him down and keeps him from being ready to hit just in case someone slips through.
