Three years of being one of the best teams in football, with other teams gunning for you, taking a beating every week but bouncing back...much of this year is the result of natural letdown. All the injuries tend to point toward that factor and players being emotionally exhausted after three years of being so close to a championship.
Not that I feel sorry for the team but you can't keep that emotional high forever. I believe they needed a boost this year and instead had negative issues undercutting their confidence and focus.
The bottom line is the team had to make a decision on Harbaugh, decided to wait, and allowed the team to drift. I'd blame Harbaugh but I don't get the impression he's the most insightful self-reflector on the planet and I think he's wondering why they don't like him after all his success. Just win baby...or be nice...or something...we'll let you know later.

- Harbaugh's contract issues. I don't blame the team but this left Harbaugh as a lame duck coach with limited support from the owner and GM.
- VD and Boone hold outs. While these guys are veterans, Mark makes a good point that a lot changed while they were gone and they may not have been able to get up to speed. VD and others might be tuning out Kaepernick and Harbaugh/Roman.
- Replacing Goodwin. I was in favor of this because Kilgore impressed me and I believed he was ready, but there was some confusion and with Boone's holdout the OL hasn't played up to speed. Kilgore's injury further exasperated this issue.
- The limited WR speed was really felt this year because of the loss of VD as a viable receiver.
- Baalke chose to ignore offensive impact players in the draft for two years after missing on Jenkins. Love his drafts but...could they have gone after someone who would have really opened up the offense? Hyde is a great pick...but with Gore being the bell cow...?
- Either Kaepernick isn't very coachable or his coaches are doing all the wrong things. The guy is stretched to the limit and looks like he might implode emotionally.

The high draft pick misses on Tank, McDonald, Lattimore, Jenkins, Jimmy Ward, Lemonier, LaMichael James are finally catching up to us. That along with injuries and a lot of reg season + playoff games the last 3 years have added up.
This offense is only effective when we can run the ball. Like it was said above, play action is how we beat teams the past few years. Now that the O-line is weak, Gore isnt a threat, Kaep almost never runs anymore and the WRs cannot get open. WRs are old and slow.
Our draft should focus heavily on the offensive side of the ball. We need O-line, TE, WR 100%.

Still disagree with letting go of Harbaugh. Agree with others Kap needs to get better at being a QB with his footwork, mechanics and decision making. And to add to the TE section...we have been struggling since losing Delaine Walker. His versatility caused mutip[le match up problems and kept the defenses guessing. We need to find a way to replace him.

The bottom line is, we know EXACTLY what we need to do for next year. The defense has a chance to be the #1 unit next year with a ton of depth. The offense needs a new offensive philosophy, OC, play book, game planner, play calling system, chess player, etc. and a few new parts/tools via the draft/FA. That's it. Period. We JUST need an average offense and we're a 3 or 4-loss team at the end of the year. We'll have our healthy players back and a couple from the I.R. pipeline (Millard and Thomas and Hunter). We will certainly get younger too and those overpriced vets who were playing at PS-levels, will be gone and/or seriously challenged. And that's a good thing!
Yes, NCommand and yes. Offense, offense, offense.
At this stage, Kap is an average QB at best. His best game remains his first start vs. Chicago in 2012. The coach's have either failed to develop him or have regressed him into a loss of confidence. We'll probably have to hope he can recover in 2015 to at least be average again. But average should be enough. Baalke and whoever is head-coaching this ship next season, must match players to scheme. Fewer mammoth-only OL with a read-option QB. A RB whose strength is read option. Fast, productive WRs. At least two.
I'm thinking Gore, Crabtree, Lloyd, Iupati/Anthony Davis will be gone.
Note: The OP didn't mention the hiring of defensive coach Mangini as TE coach. Disaster.

I agree with losing Delaney he was also a major part in the run game. We really haven't been able to replace in specifically with the "wam" blocks.

Ward, McDonald and Carradine are misses then? SMH. And Lattimore was a 4th which can hardly be described as a high pick.

Did he hit on Ward, McDonald, and Carradine? It's too early to call them busts but so far they've accounted for about as many victories as I have.

Roman, as our OC has ranked near the bottom of every crucial offensive statistic ever since he took over. As much as I'd like to see him go, this season's failures is not all his fault. Our depleted Oline play is atrocious and the Kaep pocket QB experiment has failed. HARO have had questionable play calling during their tenure but still, players have to perform. They're not the one staring down receivers and throwing off target picks...I was a little upset that we didn't go after Beckham or Cooks but even if we did, they would in the draft bust conversations...

Yes but he hasn't had QBs, WRs, RBs, OL, or...ball boys worth a darn!
