Brooks' position? You mean the one he seems to have lost today?

That's Lynch's position.

Agreed, but again look at my response to sitting Lynch. Bottom line is if the OLB is more likely to drop into coverage than rush on a play, say against a team like the saints, then Bowman is more of a benefit than either Brooks or Lynch. BUT again this is all hypothetical and the point was that we could easily use ALL 3 linebackers and shouldn't trade or get rid of any of them.

Easy, 4-3 base defense.

WLB - Bowman
MLB - Willis or Borland
SLB - Willis or Borland

RDE - Aldon
NT - Dorsey/Williams
DT - Smith/McDonald
LDE - Lynch

Not gonna lie, that looks pretty f**king scary. If nothing else, it's always great to have flexibility.

We definitely don't want to have Borland in coverage (wilhoite for that matter either). I mean if it meant helping secure Aldon long term and say we get a 1st and change for Willis would it be that crazy to trade a 30 year old LB (with bowman 26, borland 24) if Borland played this way the rest of the year? Maybe not after this year but after next year it's possible with willis then being on his last year. Like I said though we will likely keep all 3 but would be tempting if someone through out say a early 1st or a mid/late 1st and mid rounder.

It's not that crazy considering even Revis was traded. Honestly, while there is a drop off when Willis gets hurt, the defense has been fine without him this year and a couple years ago when Larry Grant was filling in. Our LB situation is an embarassment of riches and we need to replace Gore, McDonald/JSmith, and Vernon more than we need Willis.

Next years problems. Don't care right now.

agree. Let's see if he can sustain this level of play for the duration of the season. Bowman and Willis have been doing this for years, Borland a few games. It'll be a great problem to have though
as if his own thread is not enough...

bowman and willis are the starters, borland rotates in. what else?
Borland can rotate in and help keep both Willis and Bowman fresh for the 4th qtr and if 1 of them gets injured he can start in there place. In a couple of years Willis will have his contract finished and borland can take over then.

wow. how many times do our analysis guys havw to prove how important willis is for the team?

exceptional players are identified in bad situations, thus when most of the team is failing. willis is one of these players, who usually are still playing on a very high level even if the conditions around them are crappy.

Gotta love web zone logic… We finally have amazing depth, trade it!

We NEED them all. Being able to rotate those 3 will do wonders for all 3. Bowman & Borland on run downs, Bowman & Willis on pass downs, and WIllis and Borland to give Bowman rest as needed.

Borland is an amazing "in the box player" but if you noticed they did everything possible to keep him in zone coverage and not have to go man-to-man on anyone other than a RB. Hell I could see Fangio throwing Bowman into Brooks' position in some situations and having all 3 on the field at the same time.

No chance in hell we have an ILB set to earn over $8 million next year and don't have him as a starter and primarily on the field for base/run downs.
