Carradine, Lemonier and Patton dissapointments?

I dont know if it is bust or just our front office having as strong tendancy to stick with who they know. It seems like you have to have an injury ahead of you or do something pretty amazing compared to who is in front of you to bump them out around here and lets be honest the talent level is pretty high.

MacDonald- been hurt himself a lot and has show flashes here and there, but seems to be a little bit of an unnatural pass catcher...kinda like Vernon in a Brent Jones Body. Vern was slow to develop but he had athleticism and a bad team to get him on the field and getting good reps to improve. I will give Mac a pass for one more year.

Carradine- Elite athlete who seems to have some learnin issues. He looked impresive in a limited roll when we have seen him. On a worse team I think he would be on the field and used as a pass rush specialist but as a back up you want reliable and steady over occasional flashes...He like Mac gets one more year.

Lemonier- Not impressed with him so far...He just has career back up all over him. He does nothing particualarly bad, but doesnt do any thing great either. Lynch is clearly better already and I think will actually suplant Brooks as starter before too long...maybe as early as training camp next year.

Patton - I think he is just the victim of circumstance. He was hurt last year when he could have stepped up at a spot of incredible need. Because of that need we went out and loaded up at the position with elite talent and drafted a kid who is more versatile in the Duke...who can return kicks, run fly sweeps etc.. Patton would probably start in the slot on a lot of teams so I wouldnt give up on him yet. Wait until next year and see who is still here out of Crabs, Bolden, LLoyd. If we are back to being thin and he doesnt step up? Then yeah he is a bust.

Ward - Kid is doing fine...he is taking his lumps as a rookie playing out of position....but he is keeping his chin up and making some plays. The baptism by fire at slot corner might pay big dividends when he eventually slides out to safety.

LMJ- yeah he is a bust...he never seemed to have the work ethic, and mental prep to go with his ego. He was already a square peg in a round hole wtih our power run game...needed to come in humble, work hard and clean up his mental game and never did it. Weak ball control, poor hands and indecisive running were all issues with his game that were under his control and none of them got better.

Jenkins - He just wasnt good enough for his draft position- This one was a total miss.

I am sure there are others I am missing too....still I think the point stands..by and large if you are slow to develop on this team you arent going to be on the field and that exaserbates the issue. You cant get better without reps and this is a team where you are not going to get them. Beyond that I think people really underestimate how often draft picks pan out. A lot like our players the think nobody else makes mistakes...it is only us. Take a good look at the Pats, Steelers, or Cards...all pretty decent teams and see how many of their picks have been making it on to the field that last few years. Not that many. The fact is every guy is different. Some are lottery tickets they either win or lose right away...some are investments that can pay off over the next few years or may never pan out and a GM's ability to predict that is pretty limited no matter how good they are.

Yeah I get that, but you learn by actually playing and he was hurt all of last year. What is Vance's excuse?? Sure he has been a good blocking TE, but you don't draft a blocking TE in the 2nd rd. SF ran more 2 TE sets then just about any other team last year and he did nothing....same can be said for this season so far.

Yeah, but it's not Vance's fault that Kap never throws to him.

It sure is if he can't get open.... plus I wouldn't throw him the ball either if he dropped it every time...He was drafted in the 2nd rd because of his catching ability and has shown jack squat in that department.

Lemon gained some weight, but lost a step by doing so. He needs to get back to whatever weight he was at in his rookie season.
Patton is buried behind veteran WR's. Ellington is on special teams, so obviously they have to activate him over Patton.

I am most disappointed with Lemon, but I haven't given up on him yet.

I agree. It is too soon to give up on these players. They just haven't shown enough yet. Lemon-yay can still be a factor, bur he needs to get better.

He'll get better.
I'm looking at Tank like he is in his 5th game of rookie season so a disappointment, but not writing him off yet.
Patton has too much in front of him to move up the ladder at this point. If Crabtree is gone next year he might get his chance as Lloyd and Bolding will be another year older too. Although I am hoping they will draft another WR to fight it out.
Lemonier I am not sure what was expected so I am not giving an opinion. Has done nothing at all though.

Haha well I hope so! At this rate might as well not draft anyone in the 2nd (LMJ bust, Vac nothing so far, Tank nothing so far) at least Hyde looks like the real deal.

well, if they would actually play carradine over some players who do literally nothing we would have a better idea if he is disappointing or not

Agree, to me Carradine is not a disappoint yet his playing time is disappointing. Put him on the field and let him play. He will not get much better being inactive on game days.

Good level headed analysis. Especially with Ward. This guy cares and will not get beat down mentally. He will be a very special player by the end of this season, guaranteed.
I'm starting to feel it's more than the playbook w/Tank Just a feeling.

I mean, come on - how many plays does he have to know to get some reps?

Is it Vic's way of punishing him for not knowing the whole playbook?

this. not that i have a lot to prove this, but the KC game. that near pick Kaep forced in the RZ, he had Vance wide open in the end zone.

Yeah, I'm sure there's other examples of Kap over looking him. Kap has he's favorites he likes to throw to.

because he was hurt he should've had a great understanding of the playbook. he couldn't practice or play, so he should've mastered the playbook.

Patton is not a disappointment.. I think he's just one of those cases where the coaching staff would just rather play veteran like Floyd ahead of him..

Patton played well last year when given the chance.. due to the fact that we have talent on WRs, plus the veterans, they (Patton or even Ellington) has yet to get a fair chance..

Agree. Patton will be in the mix, next year. Doubt seriously that we will re sign Crabtree.
Tank just needs to get his mental aspect up. He has the skill. You could see it in the preseason.
