I think the problem some of us have is with the definition of realist or realistic. The idea of "realistic" when predicting something amidst chaos is almost laughable. Sure, in some cases, you can take a team that is absolutely horrible and you can have a reasonable expectation that they will fail. That's not the case here. This Niners team is not, hands down, a terrible team with no chance of turning things around and having success this year. Also, if you would like to equate hope with blindness, that's your choice, but I think it's a sad way of looking at things. Hope is not blind. Hope is hope. It takes courage to have hope. And having hope doesn't mean you're sure of anything. It simply means your hoping for the best outcome. There's nothing especially brave, realistic or commendable in predicting failure. So what? Almost everyone fails every year.
But this is irrelevant. Your point is that if the team ends up 8-8 or worse, the ownership should clean house. My opinion is that is the very definition of panicking over-reaction - the worst way to run an NFL franchise in which you have to build systems and personnel over time. You want to be realistic? Great. Let's have it. You give us a candidate or a set of candidates that the organization could lurch towards who you're sure could do a better job than Harbaugh and Baalke have done over the last few years. But remember, most coaches fail. Most organizations fail. Most teams fail. So, you've got a lot of convincing to do here if you think any given person is going to do better.
