He has moved on to bigger and better things. What is bigger and better than the NFL and 49ers franchise?

Move to another NFL team that gives him control over player personnel too just like Pete Carroll with the Seahawks ?

Seattle is a dominant defensive team. They run as much as anyone in the league. They thrive on ball control and physical dominance. The very blueprint that the 49ers adhere to is exactly the one Seattle uses, and they just won the Super Bowl last year; in fact, they dismantled one of the best offenses in the history of the game in the Super Bowl.

Also, I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but the 49ers have been to three straight NFC Championship games. For adhering to an "archaic" and "outdated" formula, it's sure been successful.

The difference is that Seattle has a reliable and effective passing offense that works hand in hand with their running game. A passing offense that uses guys that the 49ers couldn't figure out how to use even.

In his mind Michigan might be bigger and better and it looks like they will have an opening

We've gone to 3 NFC championships, but can you see us goinng again w/this type of undecisive game planning and play calling kinda weekend??

There are so many other young teams that are now hungier than us, trying to take that playoff spot from us, and like Kurt Warner said before the seasone, this could be the year SF doesn't make the playoffs..

and if that happens, I wouldnt be surpise if Jim Harbaugh ends up wearing that "U" hat..
in repsonse to all he replied to my comment. i'm just of the opinion and always have been that he'll find a way to move on and not get a 2nd contract here. if you feel different about it, well to each their own. we'll see who is right in good time.

Oh, so you're basically saying Seattle has an OC worth two cents. Just keep rubbing it in.

We all know Harbaugh well enough to understand what he is and what he isn't. He's a throwback to Bo Schembechler/Chicago Bears football in which the defense wins football games. You assemble a beefy offensive line, run the football and control the clock. Games are won 16-10. This is Jim Harbaugh nirvana.

you just described the CURRENT Superbowl champions....
Michigan might be opening up again this year. He's obviously talented enough to coach in the NFL and has done a great job here but his welcome is apparently wearing thin and when you have options you're going to explore them.

Harbaugh isn't going anywhere, the only impact this season will have if it continues in the direction it has will be a smaller contract. But to let a coach go after taking you to 3 NFC championships and a super bowl after a decade of total crap is beyond foolish.
Pete Carroll wasn't successful in his first stints as NFL head coach, he had to go from NFL position coach/defensive coordinator to NFL head coach and hit up the college ranks for some time before becoming Seahawks head coach and won the super bowl in his 4th season.

It's hard to say how good his 49er/NFL legacy will be but had that first year been an SB success, it could have been considered the greatest coaching we've seen in NFL history for a single season (and quite honestly, it's up there as is).

He came in with a vicious punch rarely seen in this league.

We'll have to wait and see.
The questions have to be asked IMO. You are right about one thing. Time will tell.
If we take Baalke over Harbaugh this franchise will regret it for 10+ years.

He is pretty much gone, his replacement should be Hugh Jackson. Do you see what he is doing with Dalton!
