49ers sign Kendall Gaskins to the practice squad.

Gaskins originally signed with the Buffalo Bills on April 29, 2013 as an undrafted free agent. He spent training camp with the Bills, and was released on Aug. 30, 2013. Gaskins was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad on Oct. 8 and was later released on Oct. 18. The New York Giants signed him to the team's practice squad on Dec. 17, where he spent the remainder of the season. He was released by the Giants on Saturday.

RB / FB
Kendall Gaskins
Height 6-1
Weight 238
40 Yrd Dash 4.70
10 Yrd Dash 1.68
Bench 20
Vertical 34
Broad 09´10"
20 Yrd Shuttle 4.49
3-Cone Drill 7.32

Scouting Reports

Positive Large lead blocker with a nose for the end zone. Disciplined ball carrier who runs hard on the inside and plays aggressively. Drives his shoulders into defenders, keeps his feet moving on contact, and falls forward when tackled. Patient carrying the ball, waits for blocks to develop, and finds the running lanes. Picks up yardage off initial contact and is rarely brought down by a single defender. Strong blocker who squares into opponents and anchors at the point of attack. Displays terrific vision as both a ball carrier and blocker. Solid pass catcher out of the backfield.

Negative: Possesses minimal quickness and speed. Not a creative ball carrier. Runs with an upright style.

Analysis: Gaskins has been very productive on the college level and is, in many ways, similar to former Richmond star Tim Hightower. He lacks the quickness and speed for the next level yet could find a roster spot as a short-yardage runner and backup lead blocker.

Glance at the numbers from Kendall Gaskins' career as a running back at the University of Richmond and they are fairly unremarkable. Until, that is, you look in the 'touchdowns' column, where you find the number 34. That's 34 rushing touchdowns in 452 carries, a touchdown every 13.2 carries in four years with the Spiders, who play at the FCS level. As a senior, the 6-foot-1, 238-pound Gaskins scored 13 touchdowns on 148 carries, one every 11 carries.
"It just comes down to who wants it more. On every goal-line situation there's always going to be a free runner, whether its the safety or a corner or a linebacker," Gaskins said. "You've gotta drive, put your head down and take on whoever is going there and be physical."

Gaskins' ability as a short-yardage and goal-line runner could make him intriguing to NFL teams late in the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

my Dad is a huge Giants fan, and he absolutely loved this guy. Only reason he didnt make the Giants is b/c they already have 2 big power backs on their team.
(Hillis and Jennings)

He said he has surprising burst and quickness for a guy 6-1 240. He can also catch.

He's def a name to watch out for.

Wow 240 and if he can move like hyde or gore, that's way better than LMJ and Winston with all the felony problems.

Dudes a big mother trucker.

We just keep getting bigger and bigger. I guess they needed someone to replace Winston.

Running style reminds me of Lagerette Blount.

Nice hands for a big boy...

His running style is perfect for the Harbaugh power off tackle offense. Gaskins with those hands and power, if he continues to develop might give LMJ some competition.
