James has no runningback skills. He basically a KR specialist with some 3rd down back experience. I would not be afraid to keep him in a strictly KR role and replace him in the depth chart with Winston. I've seen enough of Winston to come to that conclusion and hence the FO for letting Hampton go.

Sounds a lot like Dexter Carter.

i agree with mayo but do we not have to make sure Bruce e can do the return thing before we cut james loose? i think smith or winston could more than make up for james in the running back department but i think we have to really make sure we got a guy who can do kicks and punts before we let james loose??

s**t can James even handle punts and kicks? Yes wouldn't be a very full answer.

tolzien? Pryor? Daniels? Grossman?

Seahawks QBs are Wilson, Tavaris Jackson, Terrelle Pryor and BJ Daniels. One is bound to be cut. I'd take any of those QBs over our backups just about plus they have the inside scoop on Seattle.

Wilson and Pryor are going to be their QB's on the roster. I wouldn't mind taking BJ Daniels back though. But it won't happen either. Our roster QB's are Kaepernick and Gabbert.

For the same reason I can't tell you if LMJ is a keeper yet, is the same reason you shouldn't be able to tell me he's worthless. The guy has had injuries, which does stack up against him, but he has a lot of talent too. Let's see what he does with his opportunity this season before we write him off for some RFA who's only played one pre-season game.

Dead serious. Yea Gabbert showed some life of being slightly decent but I still maintain very little faith in him. Did you see the previous 2 preseason games? He looked worse than Colt McCoy last year which was horrendous!

Yes, but on his first couple of games, pre-season, my expectations are low. I imagine he will get a fair slice of the action for the last PS and I shall be very interested. I think we have our 2nd and 3rd stringers in place. And I shall put my neck out and say that Blaine will be the 2nd stringer and will make a good job of it, if needed. Being surrounded with quality rather than dross will make a big difference as he relaxes into the situation.

I for one would like to see us throw more to James. He's at his best when we get him in open space
We'll know a lot more after tomorrow's game as far as who performed well enough to keep.

Like every other team - not only will we be letting players go, we'll also be scouring the waiver wires for bargain high caliber players who were either too expensive or old for their teams.

I'm thinking - maybe OLine.

For all of our sakes I hope you are right. He did show some positives as you mentioned and hopefully he shows us more tomorrow. Just hoping he doesn't turn into David Carr 2.0

proclaiming winston as awesome due to a few carries against guys who will be pan handling on the side of the road next week is silly, the only way james gets cut is if the niners feel ellington can handle returns and i just do not think the pre season is a true indication of that. so i think james will stay. winston and alfonzo have potential to fill the shoes of james as far as just a back up running back but at this point in time i think james stays,, i think smith stays due to the fact he has proved in his nfl career, unlike winston, he can block, run, catch and play special teams.
