We should consider keeping the younger draft picks of course, over guys who are on one year deals, because they have cheap four year deals, but besides that, we are selecting the best 53.

NFL rosters must be reduced to a maximum of 75 players by 4:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, August 26th.

So, between Sunday's game against San Diego and Tuesday, we will see about 15 cuts.

Some cuts maybe avoided, I believe, by placing players on one of the injury lists.

I immediately looked to see how far down the list Joe Staley was.

Ultimate team guy he is.
Nice list. Definitely want young guys with upside that can do same or more than a veteran kept over veterans who cost more.

Does that top 51 rule only apply to the offseason? Also, I figured we would be over the cap if you factor in everyone, but I'm thinking we should be comfortably under with enough room to make an emergency signing if necessary once the final cuts go through. There should be some cuts after Sunday's game correct? I think they have to be down to 75 or something by the fourth game and 53 a week before the first game.

No AB but I can still help.

Yes the Top 51 rule does only apply to the off season. Once the season begins the full value of all contracts counts against the cap (53 roster + reserve, practice squad, dead money etc)

Here are the cut dates.

August 26: Teams must reduce their rosters to a maximum of 75 players on the active list prior to 1PM PST.

August 30: Teams must reduce rosters to a maximum of 53 players on the active/inactive list by 1PM PST.

Thank you for the help. Do guys like Glen Dorsey and NaVarro Bowman count since they will start the season on IR/Designated to return/PUP?

**Nevermind the question. I think they would be on the reserve lists, so they do count against the cap, correct?**

heck, i didn't realize all that counted against the cap. that has to mean that dobbs, snyder, lloyd and dahl really need to outperform some of the younger guys. is there some rule that some of the vested vets only have a certain portion of salary counted against the cap?

Yes all salaries count in calculating the team's total salary cap.
Cut Snyder
I read a CSN article couple days ago mentioning 49ers are approx. $9 under the cap. This was after including Glenn Dorsey extension.

May you explain the difference?

If I had to guess AB is more likely to be right than they are.
