From Jim Harbaugh post game press conference.
QB: Blaine Gabbert doesn't seem to be making a lot of completions. What's going on?
JH: "Well, I think right now, in terms of a backup quarterback, it'll be as simple as whoever doesn't turn the ball over. They're turning the ball over. All of them have. There's nobody to elevate. Whoever doesn't turn the ball over will be the backup quarterback."

I think the niners need to sign Josh Johnson to a team friendly extension and cut Gabbert

They owe Gabbert too much money to cut him, and Kaepernick's nickname isnt CK7...

Doesn't matter how crap he is.
We are keeping Gabagail, for two million reasons. No qb, that we can get as a 2nd string qb is going to make a run through the playoffs and get a ring.
Not gonna happen, would be great, but just ain't happening. (yeah Hostetler, but F the vagiants)
Can he scrap a game or two for us, sure, he's won with a worse team, why can't he win for us? still not gonna get us through playoffs, so if Kaep is out for a significant amount of time, the season is on the ropes, out for the playoffs, its over.

Albeit, the offensive coaches, "cough" Roman, didn't put any quarterback in a good position. In fact, Roman looked pretty flustered and unorganized himself as the camera captured him thumbing through his play book in the coach's booth. All in all, same problems as usual... Plays taking too long to call, bad audibles, drives stalling in the redzone, etc, etc...
Yeah. I saw that too. It's got me worried. Marvin and the other vets got me to settle down, but I'm still worried. Disappointed that Josh didn't take advantage of his opportunity and make good plays.

Jim Harbaugh Press Conference
You guys released former 49ers wide receiver Kassim Osgood, brought him back, released former 49ers QB Josh Johnson. Why not just release Josh Johnson earlier in the week? What was the reasoning behind the string of events behind the roster moves?
"Wanted Josh to get to practice."
So it was just one day of practice?
"Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, he practiced. Yup."
Was he the Rams quarterback on scout team?
"No, he's a 49ers quarterback."
No, you know what I mean. Was he emulating the Rams quarterback in practice? Is that why you wanted him for that one practice?
"No."
Let me ask you another question. Was there any risk in the Rams picking up Josh early in the week if you had cut him on Tuesday, say?
"Yeah. There's that chance."
Does that factor in to it?
"No."
Obviously, since the preseason we haven't seen QB Blaine Gabbert get on the field. But how's he doing as far as gaining knowledge of the offense and how confident are you in him if he were needed?
"Blaine?"
Blaine.
"Done a good job. Him and Josh are right there. They're both neck-and-neck. They're both doing really well. Josh had a real strong preseason. Blaine really came on. Has practiced extremely well the first five weeks, and so has Josh. They both have been playing at a really high level. Very confident in either of those two if they were to go into a ball game."

Unless Gabbert steps it up his $2million guaranteed could have been spent elsewhere. We've spent a 6th and cash on this kid

This is clearly a case of a guy making the team d/t his contact. Johnson clearly earned the #2 as well and is a MUCH better fit for our offense should CK go down. Sends a bad message to players I'm sure. This was Harbaugh's guy that Baalke went out and got for him. QB whisperer? Don't buy it anymore.

"Blaine really came on"...Harbaugh can't be serious...it's statements like these that make him look like a dufus.

I hope next year they solve the backup QB situation. Ideally if they can draft a guy or get a guy to be the permanent backup then they don't have to deal with these roster shenanigans and save money or roster space. Josh is the ideal backup, but for me I'd like a younger Josh drafted. Or a younger Colin - maybe use a 5th or a 6th round on him next year.
