6 WRs to be kept

Command AGAIN...not using the talent you have available to you. Horrible coaching mistake. Last yr, Jim's 3rd, he was still green, still making rookie mistakes. But not using what you have available, esp. a big guy like Osgood...that is just bad personnel use..and worse...bad coaching. And Jim Harbaugh is better than that.

I strongly considered Lloyd since he's getting positive reviews, but ultimately felt Osgood's contributions on special teams are greater than whatever Lloyd can contribute as the 4th WR. Would also rather see Patton or Ellington get the 4th WR snaps. They can play, and need all the on-field experience they can get.
This. Osgood can play WR as well and may be a decent RZ target with his height. He's just not used or needed in that capacity. I'm sure we'll keep Lloyd on speed dial if cut. I doubt anyone picks him up if we cut him late.
Osgood is a ST'r only. His receiving skills lack. Thge most receptions in a year was 16, when he was a youngin. He is in his 12 season this year and has caught a TD 5 times most recently in 2010. If he was going to make it as a WR in this league he would have by now imo.

see, I don't think Blake or Bubba make the team. There's too much defensive talent on this team to carry 2 defensive palyers who don't play defense. Who would you cut to keep Blake: Willhoite, Moody, Borland? Who would you cut to keep Bubba: McCray, Dahl, Spillman?
With luck, McCray and Moody can step up to be ST studs that can offer something on D.
See I am not a fan of Moody at all. I honestly think the kid has an uphill battle to get a roster spot. He ends up injured again and he's staring at an injury settlement. Oft injured tweeners usually have a difficult time sticking in the NFL.

I think he makes the team. If it comes down to him or Lloyd I think he makes it. Even though I want to keep both.

NE (unless there's bad blood) KC or CAR. The Rams are also in need of another viable WR.

Tis my opinion....
Do we want to keep Osgood? Yes!
Do we have more than enough guys on ST and enough to get by w/out Oz? Yes!
Does that look good for him? No
Are we going to let him go? Yes!
3 to 1 against his favor defines
JB and Jacobs not in the discussion. Lloyd stays (6 WRs).........

I don't see 6. I see us carrying 5:
Anquan Boldin
Michael Crabtree
Stevie Johnson
Quinton Patton
Bruce Ellington
In that order. I don't bother to list Osgood because he won't see the field as a WR. But if we keep 6 I'd have to put Lloyd in there.

If Bowman doesn't get that pick 6 to end the falcons game, we're all blaming Osgood for blowing the game. Maybe if he was the best gunner to ever play football you waste a spot on him, but obviously he's not and he all but blew a game for us last year playing gunner. There's plenty of scrubs playing gunner in the league that didnt put their team or fans through that heart attack.
It seems like people tout Osgood to justify not wanting Lloyd on the team when the real reason they dont want him on the team is hate. I've never seen a fanbase so worried about a gunner, its laughable honestly. I mean theres even people jocking Osgoods wr skills to justify the hate lmao.

Sorry, don't see it. Doesn't mean it won't happen. But will we take 4 TEs? An Extra lineman? FB? Where do we need this extra player?

I was away and the only thing I had to watch was the 49ers Super Bowl season that came up 5 yards short. I watched the Niners-Pats game, boy did LLoyd get open or what. Short, long, over the middle, sidelines, everywhere, the man knows how to get open and is a master route runner. He will do well in preseason and maybe land a spot.

Osgood has been in the NFL for over a decade, he's never had more than 15 receptions in any single season. He's had nine straight seasons of less than 10 receptions. Not sure how you can support the claim that the 49ers not turning him into a stud receiver is some sort of bad personnel use. He's just not a good receiver, never has been, his meal ticket in the NFL has always been his special teams ability. Teams look at him as a special teamer first, wide receiver second. If he couldn't perform on special teams, he would have been out of the NFL a long time ago.

Nobody is touting Osgood's WR skills but he does know our offense and as a 6th WR he did fine when he played d/t injuries. The questions people need to ask is how often are we going to use the 4th-6th WR? If very little they better add a lot of ST. Otherwise guys like Ellington, Lloyd, etc. won't even be active on the 46 on game days. If we retain Lloyd that may be a pretty good sign we plan on using more 3 & 4 WR sets so some games the 4-6 will all be active.
