I'll say 2 weeks. That's the point when the $30,000/day fines will really start to eat into his yearly salary.
I'm sure the 49ers would like to reward Boone, but it has to make sense salary-cap wise first and foremost. We can't afford to pay everyone.
If the 49ers want to extend Boone, I'm sure they'll tell him to show up to TC and they'll negotiate a new contract in good faith. If we simply can't afford to at the moment, he's going to have to tough it out and show up, or pay the fines.

I wonder if Paraag/Baalke . . . Paraalke already told Boone's people that extending him isn't a priority until next year. Do they even want to offer an extension to Boone?

I don't know how long his holdout will last, but he better put on his cowboy boots and report to training camp, because the Niners don't negotiate with holdouts.

Csnbc reported he will not show up at all until he gets anew contract

This is either a negotiating tactic and the Niners will call his bluff and he'll show up, or he's angling for a trade as some here have suggested. If he's hoping for a trade then we've probably seen the last of Boone

I'm betting a trade. There are some physically talented young guys on the team that can replace him, in my opinion. The two Martins, Loony, and possibly Kilgore. Boone is a a young guy, for an UDFA he can fetch a high draft pick.Originally posted by trogdor:Originally posted by 49AllTheTime:Csnbc reported he will not show up at all until he gets anew contract

Agreed about his value, I just don't want to see him go. The other guys have potential but are unproven. Boone is a beast and a key part of the o-line. Hopefully they can work something out.

It will end when the beat writers start noting how well Looney/Seymour/Martin are looking at RG and how healthy Iupati looks (back to old form) at LG.

If he's angling for a trade, I hope the Niners completely shut that down and tell him we have plenty of young/cheap talent at interior OL and they will just let him rot and fine the crap out of him. If I were the 49ers, I'd tell him look, show up, prove you're still the starter, play well and we'll see about a deal. If not, we'll gladly fine you $30K/day and let you "holdout" for 2 years. Good luck getting a contract then buddy.

I completely disagree about his value. NFL players don't get big value back in trades, just look at the players the Niners got for nothing in the Baalke era. A guard looking for a big payday will not fetch anything worthy. I bet if we wanted to trade Iupati we wouldn't get more than a 4th round pick.

This is exactly what we should do. We can afford to do just this too. His accrued fines will just be pocketed by us to pay and or extend someone else. On top of this he won't accrue a season earned towards free agency so after two years sitting he still owes us two years on the field unless he retires. The 49ers have ALL the leverage here. His best bet is to play this year out then ask for the extension after Iupati leavesOriginally posted by matt49er:If he's angling for a trade, I hope the Niners completely shut that down and tell him we have plenty of young/cheap talent at interior OL and they will just let him rot and fine the crap out of him. Boone and Iupati are both young and proven NFL talent on favorable salaries. We can easily get more than a fourth. The draft is a crapshoot projection full of uncertainty. Boone and Iupati are certainly very good starters

Not for long. He has NO leverage. Honestly, he is more valuable as a backup OT than he is as an OG. We have Kilgore, M. Martin, J. Martin, and A. Snyder. Sure, none of them are as good as Boone. But we would be just fine without him.
He has WAY more to loose than the team does by him holding out. If he misses training camp, I think it is 100% certain that Kilgore starts at RG with M. Martin starting at C and if they do well, Boone would have even less value.
