How did Morris look to you guys last season? He barely got any playing time and when he did, he didn't really have much of an impact (a few plays in the 2nd SEA game when EWright got concussed). I'm wondering why some posters seem to think he is a lock to have a future on the team. He is fast and that makes for a good gunner on the punt coverage unit, but as a CB I didn't notice him much. Not saying he is bad, just wondering what makes people think he's making the top 6.
CB is the area I am most concerned with about with the team. Brock is the one and only "sure thing". Cully is good if he can make a nice recovery from his injury. Every one else has either been a career backup, a bad starter, or is a rookie. Still, in Donatell I trust.

Ward will be a NB this year too.. could take Cooks spot on this list. I would prefer we keep Morris/Johnson/Acker over Cook.
I like this, assuming Cook shows something in PS. I think Acker would get picked up if we cut him and Cox will float around and we can resign him if there is an injury. I'd rather develop the 3 young guys and then let Reaser redshirt. With Brock being an UDFA and how they have developed him, I'm sure Donatell can develop the young guys. Johnson is like a Sherman type and Acker seems to be a bigger corner. Morris is just a speed demon who is also tough and we need that.

The 9er coaches have consistenly taken under-performing DBs and turned them into good to very good units. I have confidence that this group will be no different. There is always the chance they misfire but coaching is always under-rated on this board!

How do you figure? Brock played very well last season, Culliver was this team's best CB during the 2012 season, throw in Cox, Jimmie Ward, Daryl Morris, Cook, Dontae Johnson, Acker.....etc....this team definitely has talent and it'll be interesting to watch the competition for spots go down.

Morris is very intriguing because of what he can do on special teams. I'm very much hoping to see him develop as a CB and make this team, even just on that factor alone.

I'm interested to see how Morris will fare covering the slot.

I think being inexperienced is a benefit for him. It means he hasnt necessarily messed up to the point that he is on the bubble. Other than brock and Culliver he is the only one who was on the roster all last season as and undrafted free agent. Says something about him. He has had a year learning the system. He made the team last year and and if everybody outperforms him and he doesnt make the team then everybody performed really well and we are better off. Its a win win I think

Special teams can be Morris' calling card as he develops his CB skills. If he can overtake Spillman's spot as ST gunner, then I'd like to think Morris has more upside as a CB than Spillman does as a safety. This may make Spillman a roster cut, although that leaves a backup safety position to be filled.

I don't know if being inexperienced is a benefit. Although he hasn't done anything bad, it also means he hasn't done anything worthy of note as a CB. That year in the system is definitely an advantage over the other bubble guys a well as his ST ability. Although Cox also has experience in the system and that was a big reason he was signed a few days before the GB playoff game.
I'm going to assume that JWard wins the nickel CB. Then it leaves a battle between DJohnson, Cox, Acker, and Morris for the dime spot where the coaches will want DJohnson to win it. Runner up also gets a roster spot.

It will be interesting to see our cornerbacks do in the coming year.
Actually, I am somewhat hopeful, but then I always am.
When it comes time to pick the 53-man roster, I want the coaches to opt for the youngsters with potential.
My concern might actually be about which safeties get picked, but I do not want to stick with veterans just because they have experience.
Since Dontel (spelling) knows what he is doing, my concerns are only mid-major at most.

Dude could be a total stud as the 3rd or 4th CB on the field.

You forgot Ward.Originally posted by walshjr1978:I'm reading a lot of articles that say Kenneth acker may be placed on the p-squad, this would be a mistake if he shows any potential in preseason games. I hope TrentB learned from the M.cooper situation last season, nhamdi roster spot should've went to him. I'm hoping the top 6-CB are:
Brock
culliver
cook or cox-don't cut one of young guys for either of these two if the young player shows potential
morris
d.johnson
k.acker
