For the life of me, I cannot see why a 14 yr QB in the NFL, a very successful HC at two different levels in the NCAA, and now a HC going into his 4th yr in the bigs, (with 3 NFCC appearances and one SB appearance) cannot call his own plays. OK, the guy is hyper-animated. He does lose his cool. But I completely disagree with those who say he is too emotional to be a good OC and calls his own plays. Roman is just a run play caller and IS NOT a true OC, altho that unfortunately is his title. jH has every instinct and the full range of knowledge to make his own game plans and to call his own plays.
I think since Coach is somehow tied to roman, and won't deep six him, that roman could be part of helping with the running game plan on Monday,(or sun nite), and could have input there. But that is it. He has no business calling plays during the game because he has shown a complete inability to use passing plays to set up the run game. He inserts passing plays only because he needs to pass 48% of the time by game's end. As for when to use passing plays, and how to use them to set up the run...roman has proven that he is not capable of either. And the tougher the competition, ie NFCC and SB, the more apparent roman's weaknesses become. So schidt can him, use him minimally in developing a game plan on Mon and then give him a soda and some twinkies and let JH call the game.
Trent and JH have improved this team like none we have ever seen before. Odd then, that the weakest link in our chain, roman, remains as OC. That was our worst position going into FA and draft and remains our worst position. I just hope despite his friendship, JH can put roman into perspective, see his blatant failures, and fix things by cutting roman out of the play calling loop. It won't take many plays before we know if the above has happened or not.

Nice article on Harbaugh participating at a Santa Rosa JC Football fundraiser this past Saturday. Sounds like he owned the crowd.

It really is.
We have the strongest roster in the league, top-to-bottom. We have achieved the impossible. We are overflowing with talent in the salary cap era.
Carradine, Ian Williams, Lattimore, Stevie Johnson, Patton, Ellington, Hyde, Martin, Martin. These are all essentially "new" players to our team. Any or all of them can be a big factor on the season.
Super Bowl "49" has our name written all over it.

No more excuses.
3 years of rebuilding is enough.
It's the playoffs or bust!
A deep playoff run would be nice but as long as we're competitive and not embarrassed, I'm okay with that!

I'm looking for him to OPEN up an aggressive passing attack.
Not a once in a while, change of pace passing attack BUT a passing attack that takes the 8-men in the box equation off the table.
We did excellent in our run game considering all the 8 man fronts we faced. Just imagine how good it would be if the opposition had to deal with a high powered passing game.

What are some of the things you're looking for (or hoping for) going into Year 4? Here are some of my thoughts (in no particular order):
-Can the Niners break through to win their 6th SB? (I've been fortunate enough to see all five)
-Can they improve in "situational football", especially in the Red Zone at the end of big games?
-They improved overall in the Red Zone last year – can they continue to improve and put up more TDs instead of FGs?
-Can they start to really limit the number of timeouts they unnecessarily burn due to the playclock winding down, bad challenges, etc.?
-What kind of improvement will occur in Kap's development after being an NFL starter for just a year and a half?
-Will the offense open up a little more considering the upgraded talent in the overall receiving corps and with Kap going into his 2nd full season as a starter?
-Will the back-up QB role be stabilized with someone the team has confidence in?
-Can the team continue having success against the NFC West? (5-1 last year, 8-3-1 overall in Harbaugh's first two years)
-Harbaugh is 4-3 overall vs. Seattle – will he this year improve upon this winning record by winning at home again (undefeated vs. them) and winning again in Seattle?
-Will Harbaugh be extended – if so, for how long?
-(I know Harbaugh leaves the D and ST to those respective coaches – thus, these next two are just out of curiosity since they're such important areas to the team's success); 1) Will we see an improvement in the secondary with the new starters and rookies vs. what Rogers, Brown, and Whitner gave the team? 2) Can the ST coverage units return to their form of 2012 and not give up big plays in big games?
These are just a few thoughts that come to mind. I'd be interested to see what others thought.
Thought I'd bump this thread as we now have answers to the above - wasn't expecting these answers going into the season:
-Can the Niners break through to win their 6th SB? (I've been fortunate enough to see all five) No
-Can they improve in "situational football", especially in the Red Zone at the end of big games? No
-They improved overall in the Red Zone last year – can they continue to improve and put up more TDs instead of FGs? No
-Can they start to really limit the number of timeouts they unnecessarily burn due to the playclock winding down, bad challenges, etc.? No
-What kind of improvement will occur in Kap's development after being an NFL starter for just a year and a half? Not much, unfortunately
-Will the offense open up a little more considering the upgraded talent in the overall receiving corps and with Kap going into his 2nd full season as a starter? It tried almost too much at times...and in the process, ended up backfiring in some games
-Will the back-up QB role be stabilized with someone the team has confidence in? Not really, although the jury is still out on Gabbert
-Can the team continue having success against the NFC West? (5-1 last year, 8-3-1 overall in Harbaugh's first two years) No, 2-4 vs. the NFC West this year
-Harbaugh is 4-3 overall vs. Seattle – will he this year improve upon this winning record by winning at home again (undefeated vs. them) and winning again in Seattle? No
-Will Harbaugh be extended – if so, for how long? No

Wow. Like a checklist of fails. The secondary did lead the NFL in INTs. That is light years above Whitner, Rogers and Brown. I predicted a big increase there but wasn't expecting THAT big.
