I do not know if we will, or should, extend Crabtree's contract

But, if you are going to use numbers in your argument, you should at least get them correct.

Crabtree has not missed 22 games in his career. He has missed 17 games.

If my math is correct, you are saying that he missed about 29% more games than he actually did.

That is a significant exaggeration; at least in my opinion.

Of the 17 games that he missed, 5 were because of his contract hold-out.

He has missed 12 games because of injury.

Kap: If someone out there is willing to pay him $17-$20 stacks a year, he'll go for it. The NFL is a free market and franchise QBs are a rare breed. We have to pay him what he's worth unless you guys want to roll with Gabbert.

Kap was two plays away from having two rings. If he had two rings right now we would be looking at $20+ stacks per year. We'd be the Ravens of the west.

I'll just add that he is young and the things he can do from a physical standpoint is outrageos. It's a once in a generation talent that comes only a couple of times a decade. As he improves, we might be able to go with lesser talent at several offensive positions and still have a decent offense.

People put too much emphasis on his mistakes and don't focus on the amazing things he's done. But that will happen until he wins the big one.

Heh, folks will always focus on the negative. It's human nature. I mean I'm still pissed that Roger Craig fumbled in the Giants possible 3 peat game. Roger Craig, one of the 49er legends, and that's after how many superbowls they won?!

What has Crabtree done for the team in his five years?

His team rank for the past five regular seasons.

His team rank in the play-offs.

I am not saying that he should be extended or that he should not be extended.

I do have a dog in that fight.

Maybe, Crabtree should have put up better numbers, but calling him pretty much useless for four of his five years seems wrong.
if we are lucky they will come to 18 million a year

No you are not human! Not after all the incredible stats you put up on the boards! You definitely are not human!

6.6 mil of cap space just opened up. How much or little this helps to extend Kap remains to be seen.
WRT Crabtree, I don't think it's wrong to assume his agent (Eugene Parker) will want top dollar for his client. It's not a matter of fans begruding Crabtree's rookie holdout...it's a fact. Why shouldn't we think negotiations will be at least as difficult, if not more so now. Parker's known for his one-sided negotiations. Could he surprise us...possibly, but I wouldn't count on it. So, I'd say he'll be looking for at least a 4-5 yr contract, for big bucks. Agree, Baalke will likely offer him a fair contract, but won't cave to unreasonable demands, especially given so many players want to get paid. As he's said from the get-go, he won't and can't pay everyone what they want. That's why FA and the draft are so important, and I think he's done a darn good job with both to insure Harbaugh has quality depth everywhere.

Kap will get a contract near what the top QB's are getting...I think $18M a season is likely. You may agree or disagree with that, but I'll bet that's what happens. Looking at the bigger picture, how many young QB's have taken their team to the SB and NFC Championship their first 2 seasons...not many, if any. To a degree, they'll be paying him for what they anticipate he can do...to win at least a SB, perhaps more.

Iupati's agent will surely start his negotiations at a minimum of $50M+...and we have the bonehead Titans to thank for that. They paid a considerably lesser talent, Andy Levitre, @ $47M for 6 yrs. I don't look for him to stick around...because Baalke won't pay that kind of $$ for any OG. Enter Brandon Thomas, Marcus Martin, Joe Looney, Ryan Seymour and Jonathan Martin, who'll compete for Iupati's position.

Vernon's timing sucks...he's signed for 2 more years and knows full well Kap and others will get paid. He's drawing top 3 NFL TE pay...he should be at OTA's, but to me is being somewhat selfish.
