Never mind what you see with your own eyes in the present! No way that's more important than preconceived bias.
So are we to nevermind his entire previous body of work as well? I don't really care what he does in camp. He flat out sucked in MN and it wasn't all scheme and lack of players around him. I guess it's hard for true Homers to understand that. He played behind a nasty pass rush, a crazy good home field dome advantage and still sucked. Now we're bias somehow because we're skeptical of his ability? There's good chance this guy will be depended on at some point this season and that scares the crap out of me.
So predictable, lazy and tired. When fans who insist on being pessimistic are confronted with fans who dare to be optimistic, they almost invariably play the "Homer" card.
Why would ANY fan quickly dismiss a player HERE coming from anothr organization when we have some of THE best position coaches in the game and a long history of turning careers around. G. Dorsey was a perfect example of this just last year. The dude graded out equal to Haloti Ngata who is regarded as one of the best NT in the game. SMH.
my thing on chris cook and others brought in from other teams who have been disappointing is why rush to judgement? sticking with cook, how many of these guys watched all of minny's games? or even 1? if you're just repeating what some media types say or what PFF says then it doesnt mean much to me. every new niner gets a clean slate from me, once i see they're trash then i'm done with them.
See I'm the opposite. If I see that a dude is garbage I think he's garbage regardless of if the Niners pick the guy up or not. If proven wrong I have no problem admitting that I'm wrong. I've seen at least 10 Minnesota games over the last 2 seasons. I felt the same about Jonathan Baldwin, and Nnamdi. I thought Carlos was a average/decent corner when he left the Skins.
Nice takes, all. I am willing to give new 49ers a clean slate, but I look at their past work to give me a hint of what to expect. Cook looked bad in MIN, and I'm not talking about PFF ratings or sports articles. I watched him get spun around for no reason, and fail to even attempt to make a play on the ball when it's in the air. I didn't just watch the times where his WR got targeted either. So from that, I would be surprised if he succeeded in SF. It wouldn't be a big deal if Cook failed because acquiring Cook was not a low risk move, it was a no risk move - vet minimum UFA signing. If he turns his career around, Donatell needs a raise.
The flip side is someone like Stevie Johnson. The slate is clean until he actually proves that he fits into this offense. Based on what I saw of him in BUF, I would be surprised if he failed in SF.
