Neither one has played a down even in the preseason. Maybe we can wait to see how they look first?

I am torn between the both BUT i really do hope it's Lattimore after all the crap he has been through & seeing the whole draft process for him & his family he deserves it more than Hyde i mean dont get me wrong i love the pick & hes great insurance but in the long run i hope we are talking about Lattimore years from now closing in on Gore's record as our leading rusher.
Marcus Lattimore #38 baby!!!

I chose Hyde, but I feel for Lattimore. I really like him as a player and a person, but his knee really concerns me. He has to show that he's over the mental hurdle.

If healthy, Lattimore is the more talented player. He would've been a first round pick. If he is able to play at the level he did in college, he will be the featured back with Hyde spelling him and coming in on short yardage. We are freaking loaded at halfback.

Until Lattimore proves that his knee is back close to 100% I think you have to go with Hyde.

You never hear too much about teams developing decent RB's as opposed to hearing the same of WR's. Lamicheal James is no slouch but has barely seen any playing time during a game. Kendall Hunter hasn't shown he can be a featured back. Gore was inherited by this staff. It makes you wonder if any RB will be successful under this system and coaches.
An example of a team that can maximize a back is shannahan during his denver years. His RB's would produce and his o line would perform. He knew or somebody associated with him knew how to find RB's and o linemen that would work in his scheme. There seems to be a cliff like drop off when 49er lineman gets injured or Frank isn't 100%. This is concerning because this staff has the image of a run first, control the line type of offense.

I think the plan is to bring Lattimore along slowly. He admittedly said he doesn't have back that explosion yet. The muscles around his knee need to get stronger. His injury was horrific. Might wait until midseason to play him. It's really the smart thing to do.

Based on what Harbaugh and Baalke have said, I think they're looking for a 2-headed monster at RB...so my vote is "both".

I think its going to come down to Latt's knee.
Latt has more skills than Hyde, and would be a better fit in our system... But if that knee doesn't hold up then Hyde will obviously start.
A healthy Latt starts over a healthy Hyde.
No.

I see Gore continuing as our primary back for the first 10 games or so, with Hyde getting 5-8 carries a game. Hyde will likely begin to take the bulk of the carries towards the final third of the season, especially late in the game. The goal is to have Gore fresh and healthy for the playoffs. They are going to bring Lattimore along SLOWLY. By final third of the season, Lattimore will likely see some playing time but I don't expect the true competition at RB to start until 2015, when Gore either retires, leaves, or resigns to a deal reflective of a 3rd RB.
