Also wanted to mention the #3 OLB spot between Lemon vs Skuta.
I guess you could add Lynch to that battle. He could very well leap frog them both if he proves to be the force he was becoming at Notre Dame.

RB and CB are the biggest competition. The CB positions are up for grabs. Brock is the only one with a leg up on the rest, but the other starter and nickel are open. RB is crowded and competitive, someone good will be cut. Gore, Hunter, LMJ, Hyde, Lattimore, and even Hampton wow what a dog fight! LMJ might be the odd man out and possibly traded. I can't wait for camp to begin!

so many to pick from, but I think the most critical for the success of the team this yr is Martin vs Kilgore

Does Lynch have any experience dropping back into coverage? If he is indeed being groomed as an OLB, then yeah definitely add him to the mix. Skuta looked very smooth dropping back into coverage. I feel he has that over Lemon, who is learning how to drop back.
As far as pass rush specialist, from the #3 OLB spot, I agree Lynch is in the mix.

Stupid Peer Pressure!
I added Center and RB. Sorry for those who wanted to vote for it originally.

Fair point. It is a different position depending on who is playing. I think the coaches will keep it simple for Lynch. They'll put him in on passing downs and tell him to attack, similar to Aldon's first year. Skuta and Lemonier will probably fight for 1st and 2nd downs. Skuta played much better than Lemonier last year so he will have the leg up.

The #2 RB is really going to be interesting. That is the spot where we have 3 guys with real talent. For a 2nd place suggestion I vote for the 4th and 5th CB spot.
I really doubt Skov wins out. We aren't going to replace an injured LB with an oft injured LB. I doubt Kilgore gets replaced at C, I don't trust a fresh rookie to make line calls. Ward will start, 1st rounders shouldn't be sitting on the bench. The WR pecking order will probably pan out like most predict. Lynch needs to put serious weight back on and its going to take time. His body needs to be "right" before we throw him out there.
What I was wishing for was some real competition at QB. I don't trust Gabbert to be the primary backup. But at his current salary and having no competition he wins out by default. IMO this is an area we need to address next year. I doubt we get back to a place where it was a Montana-Young or Smith-Kap/Kap-Smith situation. But it would be nice to try.

The battle for the last remaining CB spots on the roster.
I see Brock, Culliver and Ward as locks.
Now its Wright, Cox, Cook, Johnson, Acker, Morris, Swanson fighting it out for the last 3 spots.

Even though Ward is playing CB, I think he knocks Dhal off the roster and we keep 4 more CB's instead of 3 more.

HaRoman vs. their own Schemblacher-ways
Carradine vs. McDonald/Cowboy
Williams vs. Dorsey
Ellington vs. everyone (there's a lot here) for kickoff/punt retrun duties
Gore vs. Lattimore/Hyde and Hunter vs. James/Hampton

It's hard to pick just one...some that are intriguing to me:
- Marcus Martin vs Dan Kilgore. MM's a mountain of a man who can move...think Kilgore's got his work cut out for him.
- Carlos Hyde vs Gore/Lattimore. Dude's a beast...he and Lattimore could well limit Gore's carries this season.
- Ellington vs Patton/Lloyd/Johnson. All 4 will compete for time as slot receiver. Plus, Ellington vs James for KR's.
- Ward vs (pick your CB) for slot CB. Also Ward vs Dahl/Spillman.
- Borland vs Wilhoite for ILB. Should be another battle. Borland's this era's Zach Thomas...too short, too slow. 400+ tackles at Wisc says otherwise.
- Aaron Lynch vs Lemonier. Coach Leavitt should get the best from AL...talent's there.

I think the ILB / Bowman's spot will be one of the most hard fought battles we see, then the RB spot, then the CB spot.

I would say the toughest battle with be at RB, we are loaded their this season. On paper at least. The second battle, and most important in my view, is Kilgore and Martin at the center position. As the top center in the draft, you hope he can beat out a guy like Kilgore right out of the gate.
